What Is on Deck 19 of Icon of the Seas?

Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas is the second, upper level of The Grove Suite Sun Deck. Royal Caribbean’s plan shows two open sun-deck areas, one on each side of a large gray area in the middle that isn’t open to guests, and nothing else: no staterooms, no pool, no bar and no elevator.

It’s extra sunning space for the same suite guests who use The Grove on Deck 18. Deck 19 is one of 18 decks in our Icon of the Seas deck plans guide.

Icon of the Seas Deck 19 deck plan, the upper level of The Grove Suite Sun Deck. Plan: Royal Caribbean. Layouts and room categories can change; the plan on Royal Caribbean's site is the current one.

The Deck 19 plan is small. Royal Caribbean labels two areas “The Grove Suite Sun Deck,” one on each side, with a large unlabeled gray area between them and one set of outdoor stairs on each side. The plan doesn’t show any pool, bar, seating or elevator on this level.

What Deck 19 Is For

Royal Caribbean places The Grove Suite Sun Deck on Decks 18 and 19, and guest reviews call it a two-story sun deck. The pool, the whirlpool, The Grove restaurant and its bar, and the restrooms are all downstairs on Deck 18. Deck 19 is the upper level for spreading out in the sun.

Getting Up to Deck 19

The only way up is the outdoor stairs from the Deck 18 sun deck. The ship’s elevators stop at Deck 18, so anyone who uses a wheelchair or a scooter, or would rather skip the climb, can enjoy the sun deck on Deck 18 instead.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Deck 19 is an open top deck with stairs, so keep little ones within arm’s reach up here. Grandparents who’d rather not climb can claim a lounger by the pool on Deck 18, where the elevators, restrooms and The Grove are all a few steps away.

Who Can Use Deck 19?

Deck 19 follows the same rules as The Grove on Deck 18: it’s for Sky Class and Star Class suite guests. That includes the loft suites and the Ultimate Family Townhouse (Star Class) and the Panoramic, Sky Junior, Grand, Owner’s, Infinite Grand and Sunset suites (Sky Class).

Most sources list the Junior Suites as Sea Class, which doesn’t include the sun deck, but a few list the Deck 10 and 11 ones as Sky Junior Suites, so we confirm the class for your exact room. For sailings on or after May 2, 2026, the Surfside Family Suites moved to Sea Class too, so they no longer include it. Guests in non-suite staterooms can’t use Deck 19.

Is Deck 19 Adults Only?

No. The Grove Suite Sun Deck isn’t an adults-only area, so grandkids staying in a qualifying suite are welcome on both levels. Royal Caribbean doesn’t publish hours for the sun deck, so check the Royal app on board.

What Isn’t on Deck 19

  • Crown’s Edge is on Deck 16, not up here.
  • The waterslides start on Deck 20 at the other end of the ship, and you enter them from Deck 16.
  • A bar: there isn’t one on Deck 19. The sun deck bar is at The Grove on Deck 18.
Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip For suite families, Deck 19 is a nice bonus, not a reason to book. When we compare suites for you, we weigh Coastal Kitchen, The Grove and the room itself first, then point out the extra sun deck space as a perk.

Is Deck 19 a Good Deck for Families?

For families in a Sky or Star Class suite, Deck 19 is extra room in the sun, up one flight from the pool. Everyone else won’t have access, and with stairs only, it’s not the spot for a stroller or a wheelchair.

Frequently Asked Questions About Icon of the Seas Deck 19

What is on Deck 19 of Icon of the Seas?

Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas is the upper level of The Grove Suite Sun Deck. Royal Caribbean’s plan shows two open sun-deck areas, one on each side of a gray area that isn’t open to guests, with no staterooms, pool, bar, restrooms or elevator. The pool, whirlpool and The Grove restaurant are one flight down on Deck 18. What that means for your family: if you’re in a qualifying suite, Deck 19 is extra space to spread out in the sun when the pool deck below is busy.

Is there an elevator to Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas?

No, there’s no elevator to Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas. The only way up is the outdoor stairs from The Grove Suite Sun Deck on Deck 18, where the ship’s elevators stop. Royal Caribbean’s plan shows one staircase on each side of the deck and no elevator. Here’s what I tell grandparents: if stairs are hard on your knees, or someone in your group uses a wheelchair or scooter, the Deck 18 level has the pool, loungers, restrooms and The Grove right there.

Who can go up to Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas?

Only Sky Class and Star Class suite guests can use Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas, the same guests who can use The Grove on Deck 18. That includes the loft suites, the Ultimate Family Townhouse, and the Panoramic, Sky Junior, Grand, Owner’s, Infinite Grand and Sunset suites. For sailings from May 2, 2026, Surfside Family Suites are Sea Class and don’t include it. Most sources list the Junior Suites as Sea Class too, though a few list the Deck 10 and 11 ones as Sky Junior Suites. The truth is, the suite class matters more than the suite name when you compare prices.

Is there a pool on Deck 19 of Icon of the Seas?

No, Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas has no pool, whirlpool or bar. It’s the upper, open level of The Grove Suite Sun Deck. The suite pool and whirlpool are one flight down on Deck 18, along with The Grove restaurant and its bar. The main pools for everyone on board are on Deck 15, and Cloud 17 is on Deck 17. In fact, Deck 19 works best as a place to sun between dips in the pool downstairs.

Is Deck 19 adults only on Icon of the Seas?

No, Deck 19 on Icon of the Seas isn’t adults only. It’s part of The Grove Suite Sun Deck, which is open to Sky Class and Star Class suite guests of all ages. Grandkids in a qualifying suite are welcome on both levels. Deck 19 is an open top deck reached by outdoor stairs, so keep little ones close. The simple test I use: if your grandchild can climb stairs safely with you, Deck 19 is a fine spot for a family nap in the sun.

Is Crown’s Edge on Deck 19 of Icon of the Seas?

No, Crown’s Edge on Icon of the Seas is on Deck 16, just forward of the aft elevators, where Thrill Island begins, not on Deck 19. Deck 19 is the upper level of the suite sun deck, near the front. The Category 6 waterslides start on Deck 20 at the back of the ship, and you enter them from Deck 16. Crown’s Edge costs extra, while the waterslides are included. We help families decide whether Crown’s Edge is worth adding before they sail.
