What Is on Deck 12 of Icon of the Seas?

Deck 12 on Icon of the Seas is mostly staterooms, with the lower level of the Vitality Spa at the front. In the middle of the ship, the inside rooms have balconies that look down into Central Park on Deck 8. At the back, the inside rooms look down on Surfside, the family neighborhood on Deck 7.

The Deck 12 plan shows 349 rooms, numbered 12134 to 12758. Unlike Decks 9 to 11, the outside rows here are traditional Ocean View Balconies, with a door out to a separate balcony. Icon has no Deck 13, so the next deck up is Deck 14. Deck 12 is one of 18 decks in our Icon of the Seas deck plans guide.

Read the Deck 12 plan from front to back. The very front of the deck isn’t open to guests. Behind it, Ocean View Balconies line both outer sides, with a few interior rooms and the Vitality Spa in the middle.

Past the forward elevators, long rows of Ocean View Balconies run down both outer sides of the ship. On the inside, facing Central Park, are the Central Park balconies, 12179 to 12257 on one side and 12579 to 12657 on the other.

Behind the aft elevators, the inside rooms turn to face Surfside, and the outer rows include the Connecting Ocean View Balconies. The deck ends with Ocean View Large Balconies near the back and the four Sunset Corner Suites at the corners.

The Vitality Spa on Deck 12

Icon’s Vitality Spa is on two levels. Deck 12 has the lower level, at the front of the ship. The upper level is on Deck 14, with the Vitality Cafe and the To Dry For hair salon. The Points Guy‘s preview of the spa describes a thermal suite with saunas, aromatherapy showers and heated loungers, plus two couples massage rooms.

  • What costs extra: all spa treatments, plus a 20% gratuity that Royal Caribbean adds automatically. Thermal suite access is a paid pass.
  • Teens: Royal Caribbean’s YSPA menu offers treatments for ages 13 to 17, so check the Royal app to see if it’s offered on your sailing. A parent has to sign, and teens aren’t allowed in the sauna or steam rooms.
  • The gym isn’t here: Icon’s Fitness Center is on Decks 5 and 6, at the front of the ship.

Central Park Balconies on Deck 12

Deck 12 has 67 Spacious Infinite Central Park View Balconies, the top of the three decks with infinite park balconies (Decks 10, 11 and 12). Here’s the part families notice: on the plan, 33 of the 67 sleep 4. On Deck 10, only 4 of 63 do. Many of the Deck 12 park rooms also connect in pairs, one that sleeps 4 and one that sleeps 3.

An “infinite” balcony is built into the room. Push a button, and the top panel of the floor-to-ceiling window slides down, so the lower glass works like a balcony railing and the room opens to the fresh air. There’s no ocean view from these rooms; you look across the trees to the rooms on the other side of the park.

Central Park Balconies to Check Before You Book

Royal Caribbean’s plan marks four Deck 12 park rooms as obstructed views, one at each end of the two rows: 12179, 12579, 12257 and 12657. On Deck 10, guest reviews found park balconies right above The Pearl with a partly obstructed view; we haven’t found the same report for Deck 12. Park rooms face each other, so you’ll want the curtains closed at times.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Deck 12 is a good deck for side-by-side rooms. The Connecting Ocean View Balconies come in 16 pairs, and many of the Central Park balconies connect too. Two connecting rooms give the grandparents their own bathroom and their own door, and that keeps a week at sea happy.

Ocean View Balconies and Suites on Deck 12

Most rooms on Deck 12 are Ocean View Balconies with a traditional balcony: a sliding door out to two chairs and a small table. A published guest review of the same room type on Deck 14 describes the room as about 200 square feet plus a 50-square-foot balcony, with a king bed that splits into twins. The rooms along the front and the long middle rows sleep 2; many rooms near the back sleep 3 or 4.

The 32 Connecting Ocean View Balconies sit in the outer rows toward the back, in 16 pairs. At the back corners are four Sunset Corner Suites, 12352, 12358, 12752 and 12758, each with a wraparound balcony. They sleep 4 and are Sky Class. Between each pair of corner suites sit two connecting Ocean View Large Balconies that face the wake: 12354 and 12356 on one side, 12754 and 12756 on the other.

Connecting and Accessible Staterooms on Deck 12

A small curved arrow between two rooms on the plan marks a connecting pair. On Icon, the pair shares a private foyer in front of both doors rather than a door between the rooms, so you can close the foyer off from the hallway and leave both room doors open. Deck 12 has no Surfside Family Suites or Family Infinite Ocean View Balconies (those are on Decks 9 to 11), so for a family of five or more, two connecting rooms are the way to go here.

Deck 12 has ten wheelchair-accessible staterooms: 12254, 12258, 12260, 12264, 12654, 12658, 12660 and 12664, all Ocean View Balconies, and 12289 and 12689, both Surfside Family View Balconies. All ten sleep 4.

Quietest and Noisiest Cabins on Deck 12

Deck 11 below is all staterooms, and most of Deck 14 above is staterooms too. The rooms to think about on Deck 12 are at the front and around the elevators.

  • Front of the ship: Guest reviews list the forward rooms, 12134 to 12162 and 12530 to 12562, as rooms where you may hear bass from AquaDome shows and rehearsals. Cruise Critic also warns that cabins far forward on Deck 12 pick up some AquaDome noise, mostly bass.
  • Surfside-facing rooms: The pool-noise warnings in guest reviews cover the Surfside rooms on Decks 7, 9, 10 and 11, not Deck 12. You’re higher above the splash pad here, but you still look down on a busy family area.
  • Check the view: the plan marks 19 rooms as obstructed views, including a few forward balconies by the elevators and ten Surfside-facing rooms near the back.
  • Watch the elevator lobbies: rooms right beside the forward and aft elevators get more hallway traffic.
Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip If the spa is part of your vacation, Deck 12 puts it just down the hall. We suggest looking at the treatment menu in the Royal app before you sail, so the spa day you want lands on the day you want it.

Is Deck 12 a Good Deck for Families?

Yes, Deck 12 is a good deck for families who want connecting rooms, Central Park balconies that sleep 4, or a spa day close by. It has no family suites or rooms that sleep 5 or more, so larger groups will want two connecting rooms. Light sleepers should skip the forward rooms.

Frequently Asked Questions About Icon of the Seas Deck 12

What is on Deck 12 of Icon of the Seas?

Deck 12 on Icon of the Seas has 349 staterooms, numbered 12134 to 12758, and the lower level of the Vitality Spa at the front. Midship, 67 inside rooms have infinite balconies over Central Park, and at the back, 52 rooms look down on Surfside. The outside rows are traditional Ocean View Balconies. What that means for your family: Deck 12 is a balcony deck with lots of connecting rooms, and no room here sleeps more than 4.

What deck is the spa on Icon of the Seas?

The Vitality Spa on Icon of the Seas is on two decks, 12 and 14, at the front of the ship. Deck 12 has the lower level, and Deck 14 has the upper level with the Vitality Cafe and the To Dry For hair salon. Treatments cost extra, and Royal Caribbean adds a 20% gratuity. The gym is separate, on Decks 5 and 6. The simple test I tell people: if a spa day matters to someone in your group, look at the treatments in the Royal app before you sail, not on the last sea day.

Can teens use the spa on Icon of the Seas?

Teens 13 to 17 can book treatments from Royal Caribbean’s YSPA menu, where it’s offered on your ship, so check the Royal app for your Icon sailing. A parent or guardian has to sign, under-16s need a parent present for treatments in private rooms, and teens aren’t allowed in the sauna or steam rooms. All spa treatments cost extra. In fact, a mother-daughter facial can be a sweet sea-day treat, so book it early in the cruise.

Are there connecting rooms on Deck 12 of Icon of the Seas?

Yes, Icon of the Seas Deck 12 has many connecting rooms, including 32 Connecting Ocean View Balconies in 16 pairs and a number of connecting Central Park balconies. On the plan, a curved arrow between two rooms marks each pair. Each Central Park pair is one room that sleeps 4 and one that sleeps 3, and most Connecting Ocean View Balcony pairs sleep 3 and 3. That matters because Deck 12 has no family suites, so two connecting rooms are how a family of five or more stays together here. Confirm the exact pair with your advisor.

Which Deck 12 cabins hear the AquaTheater?

On Icon of the Seas Deck 12, the forward rooms 12134 to 12162 and 12530 to 12562 can pick up bass from AquaTheater shows and rehearsals in the AquaDome, according to guest reviews, and Cruise Critic also flags the far-forward cabins. The AquaDome sits above the front of the ship, and its shows run only a handful of times per sailing. The truth is, the shows are few, so many families won’t mind. But if a grandparent is a light sleeper, I’d pick a room in the middle of the deck instead.

Are there accessible cabins on Deck 12 of Icon of the Seas?

Yes, Icon of the Seas Deck 12 has 10 wheelchair-accessible staterooms: 12254, 12258, 12260, 12264, 12654, 12658, 12660 and 12664, all Ocean View Balconies, plus 12289 and 12689, both Surfside Family View Balconies. All ten sleep 4, and there’s no accessible Central Park balcony or interior room on this deck. Royal Caribbean’s deck plan marks them with a wheelchair symbol. If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair or a scooter, tell your advisor at the start, since these rooms can go early.
