What Is on Deck 17 of Icon of the Seas?

Deck 17 on Icon of the Seas has three parts. The front holds 22 suites wrapped around the upper level of Coastal Kitchen, the restaurant for suite guests. The middle is Cloud 17, a quieter pool area with its own whirlpool and The Lime and Coconut bar. The very back is the Sports Court, with basketball, pickleball and soccer.

This is the deck for the ship’s two-story suites: all seven Icon Loft Suites and the one Royal Loft Suite are here. Deck 17 is one of 18 decks in our Icon of the Seas deck plans guide.

Where Deck 17 sits on the ship.

Read the Deck 17 plan from front to back. The forward end holds 22 suites, 11 on each side of the ship, with the upper level of Coastal Kitchen in the middle between them. From the front, each side runs Panoramic Suites, Sky Junior Suites, a Grand Suite, Owner’s Suites and then the Icon Loft Suites, with the Royal Loft, 17022, at the back corner of the block beside the forward elevators.

Past the elevators, the deck opens onto Cloud 17. The Cloud 17 Pool runs along one side, with The Lime and Coconut bar and a whirlpool nearby and lounge chairs down the side of the ship.

Behind Cloud 17, a smoking area sits beside the aft elevators, and the Sports Court fills the very back of the deck.

What You’ll Find on Deck 17

Cloud 17 (Midship)

  • Cloud 17: a quieter pool area with a pool and a cantilevered whirlpool overlooking the water. It’s open to the whole family. Royal Caribbean made The Hideaway on Deck 15 the adults-only (18+) spot instead, just before Icon’s first sailing. Posted rules can change, so check the Royal app.
  • The Lime and Coconut: the bar beside the Cloud 17 Pool, one of four Lime and Coconut bars on Icon. Drinks cost extra unless you have a beverage package.

The Sports Court (Aft)

  • Basketball: a full court with two baskets.
  • Pickleball: open play, with paddles and balls provided. Private lessons cost extra.
  • Soccer: open play, plus 4×4 tournaments for kids ages 8 to 12.
  • More games: volleyball a few times per sailing, adult dodgeball and family sports challenges.

Royal Caribbean says most Sports Court activities are included in your fare, and the equipment is provided.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip The Sports Court is a great place to burn off a sea day’s worth of energy. Check the daily schedule in the Royal app for the kids’ soccer tournaments and family challenges, and bring water up with you. It sits up high and out in the open at the back of the ship, and the sun gets strong by midday.

Suites on Deck 17

All 22 staterooms on Deck 17 are suites in the Suite Neighborhood, numbered 17002 to 17022 on one side and 17024 to 17044 on the other. Every suite here includes breakfast, lunch and dinner at Coastal Kitchen and access to The Grove on Deck 18 and the suite sun deck on Decks 18 and 19.

Which Deck 17 Suite Is Which?

Suite Type Rooms and Features
Panoramic Suite17002, 17004, 17024 and 17026: floor-to-ceiling windows with wide ocean views, but no balcony. Sleeps 4. Sky Class.
Sky Junior Suite17006, 17008, 17028 and 17030, each with a balcony. Sleeps 4. Sky Class. Royal Caribbean’s deck plan marks 17006 and 17028 as obstructed views, so ask your advisor what that flag means for the balcony before you book either one.
Grand Suite17010 and 17032, each with a balcony. Sleeps 4. Sky Class.
Owner’s Suite17012, 17014, 17034 and 17036: about 658 square feet plus a 190-square-foot balcony. Sleeps 4. Sky Class.

Sky Class and Star Class on Deck 17

Deck 17 has both suite classes. Sky Class suites include all-day Coastal Kitchen, The Grove and the suite sun deck, and flexible arrival boarding with priority departure. The perks vary a little by suite (the Sky Junior Suites, for example, don’t include Wi-Fi), so we confirm the list for your exact room. The two loft types are Star Class, which adds a Royal Genie, specialty dining, gratuities and a beverage package for each guest, with a non-alcoholic version for kids.

The one accessible suite on Deck 17 is 17018, the only accessible Icon Loft on the ship. Guest reviews report it has an elevator between its two levels.

Noise and Location for Deck 17 Suites

Deck 16 directly below has the same block of suites, so nobody sleeps under the Cloud 17 pool or the Sports Court, and guest reviews say Icon’s suite decks are quieter, with fewer people passing in the halls. One thing overhead to know: The Grove and the suite sun deck, with its pool and whirlpool, sit right above the forward suites on Deck 18. A few more things to know from the plan: the loft suites sit at the back of the block, next to the forward elevators and the start of the pool deck, while the Panoramic Suites are at the very front, where the ship moves more in rough seas.

Which Part of Deck 17 Fits Your Family?

Here’s how we think about it for families:

  • Sporty grandkids: the Sports Court, included in your fare.
  • A calmer swim: the Cloud 17 pool and whirlpool, open to the whole family.
  • A big family in one suite: the Royal Loft, the only suite on this deck that sleeps 6.
  • Grandparents who want a splurge: an Icon Loft, with the bedroom upstairs and the living room down.
Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip A loft suite means stairs inside your room. That’s fun for older grandkids and a little tricky with toddlers or tired knees. We walk families through the layout of each suite type before they book, so nobody is surprised on the first night.

Is Deck 17 a Good Deck for Families?

Yes, Deck 17 is a good deck for families on Icon of the Seas. The Sports Court and the Cloud 17 pool are included for all ages, and the suites up front, including the two-story lofts, give a family room to spread out. Little ones will still want Surfside on Deck 7 for the splash pad.

Frequently Asked Questions About Icon of the Seas Deck 17

What is on Deck 17 of Icon of the Seas?

Deck 17 on Icon of the Seas has 22 suites and the upper level of Coastal Kitchen at the front, the Cloud 17 pool area in the middle, and the Sports Court at the back. The suites include all seven Icon Loft Suites and the Royal Loft. Cloud 17 has a pool, a cantilevered whirlpool and a Lime and Coconut bar. Here’s what that means for your family: the Sports Court and Cloud 17 are included in your fare and open to every guest, even if you aren’t staying in a suite.

Is Cloud 17 adults only on Icon of the Seas?

No, Cloud 17 on Icon of the Seas has been open to guests of all ages since January 2024. Just before Icon’s first sailing, Royal Caribbean made The Hideaway on Deck 15 the adults-only area for guests 18 and up, and Cloud 17 became a quieter pool for everyone. Some older pages still call it adults only, so check the Royal app for the posted rules on your sailing. The truth is, it’s a calm spot for a swim with grandkids who’d rather skip the busier pools.

What is an Icon Loft Suite on Icon of the Seas?

An Icon Loft Suite on Icon of the Seas is a two-story Star Class suite on Deck 17, with the living area downstairs and the bedroom upstairs on Deck 18. There are seven on the ship, all on Deck 17, and each sleeps 4. Star Class adds a Royal Genie, specialty dining and a beverage package. Suite 17018 is the only accessible Icon Loft, with an elevator between levels. In fact, the stairs are the first thing I ask families about, since they matter with toddlers.

Where is the Royal Loft Suite on Icon of the Seas?

The Royal Loft Suite on Icon of the Seas is suite 17022 on Deck 17, at the back corner of the suite block next to the elevators. It’s a two-story Star Class suite with two bedrooms, about 1,482 square feet, a piano and a 705-square-foot balcony with its own whirlpool. It sleeps 6, the most of any suite on Deck 17. The simple test I use: if three generations want to share one big space, this is the suite to ask about first.

What can you play at the Sports Court on Icon of the Seas?

The Sports Court on Icon of the Seas is at the very back of Deck 17, and it offers basketball, pickleball, soccer, volleyball a few times per sailing, adult dodgeball and family sports challenges. Paddles, balls and other equipment are provided, and Royal Caribbean says most Sports Court activities are included in your fare. Private pickleball lessons cost extra. What I tell grandparents: the kids’ 4×4 soccer tournaments for ages 8 to 12 are a great way for grandkids to make friends on the first sea day.

What is included with a Deck 17 suite on Icon of the Seas?

Every Deck 17 suite on Icon of the Seas includes breakfast, lunch and dinner at Coastal Kitchen, plus The Grove on Deck 18 and the suite sun deck on Decks 18 and 19. The Panoramic, Sky Junior, Grand and Owner’s Suites are Sky Class, with flexible arrival boarding, priority departure and more, though the perks vary a little by suite. The Icon Lofts and the Royal Loft are Star Class, which adds a Royal Genie, specialty dining, gratuities and a beverage package, with a non-alcoholic version for kids. We help families compare the two before they book.
