Is Universal Nights at Epic Universe Worth It?

My family spent a sold-out Saturday at Universal Nights, the after-hours event at Universal Epic Universe. Here are the real wait times, the check-in steps, the included snacks, and the things I wish I had known before we went.

Is Universal Nights at Epic Universe Worth the Money?

Yes, for my family it was. Universal Nights at Epic Universe costs about $180 plus tax per person. The event runs from 9:00 PM to midnight, with entry as early as 7:00 PM.

We went on October 3, 2026, the very first night, and it was sold out. Even so, most ride waits I recorded were 5 to 20 minutes, and several rides were walk-ons.

It fits best when your family can stay up until midnight and the extra ticket fits your budget. It is a harder call when your kids fade by 9:00 PM. This is one opening-night experience, so read it as a report, not a promise for every date.

This review is for parents and grandparents deciding whether to add the event to an Epic Universe trip. It matters most for families with kids who struggle in heavy crowds.

The waits were low at both of my check times. Most rides posted 5 to 20 minutes. I wrote down the posted times twice, at 9:38 PM and again near 10:44 PM.

Posted waits, not measured queue times. Recorded by Holly Neth on October 3, 2026, Eastern Time.

Team Members sent us through the Express queues, which cut out a lot of walking. On several rides we kept moving until we reached the loading area. We never needed a Universal Express Pass that night.

Keep in mind these numbers come from a sold-out night. Low waits were not a sign of slow ticket sales. That detail changed how I see the value of this event.

The one longer line was a character, not a ride. Toothless posted 30 minutes near 10:44 PM, and we waited 15 to 20 minutes when we met him earlier.

We had been to Epic Universe before, so we had no checklist. We rode everything we wanted and chose to skip a few rides. Nobody was asking what came next.

For a first visit, three event hours go quickly in a park with five worlds. In that case, our Epic Universe guide is the better starting point.

With younger kids, check ride heights before you buy. Our Universal height requirements ride finder covers every Epic Universe ride. For families with toddlers and little kids, the late hours and the price both deserve a hard look.

Next time, I would grab the popcorn earlier, since it ran out before the event ended.

How Much Does Universal Nights Cost and Which Dates Are Left?

Universal Nights at Epic Universe event check-in sign

Universal Nights tickets start at about $180 plus tax per person. That price applies to everyone age 3 and up. At the starting price, a family of four would spend about $720 before tax, as an estimate.

According to Universal Orlando Resort’s Universal Nights page, the event is limited-capacity and all five worlds stay open. Universal later added three more nights, for five in total.

On top of that, Passholders get two discounts. Annual and Seasonal Passholders save 10% on up to six event tickets. During the event, Premier Passholders also save 15% on food and merchandise, and Preferred Passholders save 10%.

Here is where the 2026 dates stand as of October 5:

  • Saturday, October 3: sold out (the night we went)
  • Saturday, October 17: sold out
  • Saturday, October 24: available
  • Friday, November 6: available
  • Friday, November 20: available

The first two nights both sold out, so I would not wait long on the remaining dates. Availability can change at any time.

How Does Check-In Work at Universal Nights?

Universal Nights wristband pickup sign at Universal Epic Universe

Check-in was quick. Universal Nights has its own entrance line, and you get a wristband there. We got in line at 7:00 PM and were inside with wristbands on by 7:10 PM.

At first, the line looked very long. Once Team Members started letting guests in, it moved fast. If you are already in Epic Universe for the day, you can pick up your wristband inside the park and stay put.

Use the first hour. Before the park closed to day guests, we rode two rides and grabbed ice cream at Frosty Moon. After that, we found a spot for Universal Celestial Goodnight, and the fireworks were back in the show.

Around 8:00 PM that evening, the park closed to daytime guests. From then on, Team Members stood at each portal and checked wristbands before letting anyone into a world. Soon after, the crowds started to thin out.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Be in the entrance line by 7:00 PM. Holly’s family fit two rides, an ice cream stop and the nighttime show into the two hours before the event officially began. That turns a three-hour ticket into a five-hour night.

What Food and Drinks Are Included With Universal Nights?

The Kimchi Bao, served in Celestial Park.

Your ticket includes three things: Kimchi Bao, berry-flavored Celestial Popcorn and Coca-Cola Freestyle drinks. The snacks are served in Celestial Park only. Plan a walk back from the other worlds when you get hungry.

For the bao, service ran from 9:00 PM to midnight at one location, Star Sui Bao. Each bun has crispy chicken in gochujang sauce, scallion-yuzu aioli and Korean slaw. They are small, tasty and unlimited.

The popcorn came in individual bags. Universal lists it as unlimited, but on our night it ran out before the event ended. Grab an extra bag early if you want one for the walk back to your hotel.

For drinks, each guest gets a cup for any Freestyle machine in the park, with about 100 drink choices. Team Members started handing out tagged cups to wristband guests around 8:00 PM. The machines switched on for the event at 9:00 PM.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Pick up your Freestyle cup at 8:00 PM and your popcorn before 10:00 PM. On October 3 the popcorn was gone before midnight, and every included snack is in Celestial Park, not in the other four worlds.

Which Restaurants and Shops Are Open During Universal Nights?

Yes, restaurants and shops were open during the event. I can only vouch for the places we used ourselves, so this is not a full list.

We ate at four spots over the evening: Frosty Moon, Meteor Astropub, Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel and Spit Fyre Grill. Food at these places is not part of the event ticket, so plan to pay for it as usual.

For shopping, we browsed Nintendo Super Star Store, Tour En Floo, Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets and North Star Wintry Wonders. The gift shops you normally exit through after a ride were open too.

Hours for any one location can change from night to night. If a certain restaurant or shop matters to your family, ask a Team Member when you pick up your wristband.

Can You Use the Attraction Assistance Pass at Universal Nights?

An open queue area inside the Ministry of Magic with few guests during Universal Nights
The queue area for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry during the event.

On our night, we were not able to use it. My son normally uses Universal’s Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP). For us, that turned out fine, because most of what we rode had a 5 to 20 minute wait.

Every guest’s needs are different, so weigh this carefully if your family relies on AAP. I can only tell you what happened to us on October 3. Universal has not published a pass policy for this event.

Accommodation decisions belong to Universal’s Guest Services team, so check with them before you buy. Your advisor can help you plan the night around their answer.

For ride-by-ride details, Universal’s event page points guests to its Epic Universe Guide for Safety and Accessibility. It is worth a read before any visit.

Here is why the night still worked so well for him. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is loud and busy on a normal day, with crowds, sounds and movement everywhere. During the event, far fewer people were around us.

For the first time, he could really use his Power-Up Band and play the games at his own pace. He did not reach the sensory overload he usually hits there. That was my favorite part of the whole night.

In other words, the benefit was bigger than shorter lines. We could move through the park, stop for spells and take pictures without a crowd pressing in.

Even so, fewer guests did not make the park quiet. The lights, sounds, movement and ride effects were all still there, so a smaller crowd will not suit every sensory profile.

What Can You Do Besides Rides at Universal Nights?

A dragon meet and greet in Isle of Berk during Universal Nights at Epic Universe

Plenty. Characters, shows and the interactive games all ran during the event. I expected short ride lines to be the big win, yet the real surprise was how much of the park we got to enjoy.

Wands and Power-Up Bands

Bring your interactive wand. We did the spells with nobody waiting behind us. Better still, we could take our time with the Power-Up Band games in SUPER NINTENDO WORLD.

Characters

Isle of Berk had its usual characters out, including Toothless. His line was 15 to 20 minutes when we met him, and I saw it posted at 30 minutes later on. We also spotted Mario, Luigi and Captain Cacao.

Best of all, the meets did not feel rushed. With fewer families waiting, each visit ran longer and felt more relaxed than on a busy park day.

Shows

Both of the park’s stage shows, Le Cirque Arcanus and The Untrainable Dragon, ran during the event. Add Universal Celestial Goodnight before the event, and we saw three shows in one evening. We never felt we had to choose between a show and a ride.

When Do the Rides Close at Universal Nights?

Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry sign showing a 10 minute wait during Universal Nights
A 10 minute posted wait for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry.

The event ends at midnight, but some lines close sooner. On October 3, Mine-Cart Madness stopped taking new guests around 11:37 PM. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry followed around 11:50 PM.

Because of that, I would be in line for your must-do ride by 11:30 PM. Do not save your number-one ride for 11:55 PM and expect to walk on. Mine-Cart Madness also posted the longest ride wait I recorded, at 20 minutes.

Naturally, rides can also go down for a short time. Curse of the Werewolf was temporarily delayed near 10:44 PM during our visit. With waits this short, we moved to the next ride and came back.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Ride Mine-Cart Madness and Battle at the Ministry before 11:00 PM. Those two lines closed to new guests at about 11:37 PM and 11:50 PM on the first night, ahead of the midnight finish.

What Are My Best Tips for Universal Nights?

The Chronos tower and entrance portal at Universal Epic Universe lit up at night during Universal Nights

My biggest tip is to slow down. With waits like the ones we saw, you do not need to race. These are the 8 things I would tell a friend before she goes:

  1. Arrive for the 7:00 PM entry. Those two extra hours are valuable.
  2. Do not panic at the entrance line. Ours cleared in about 10 minutes.
  3. Watch Universal Celestial Goodnight before the event begins.
  4. Pick up your Freestyle cup around 8:00 PM.
  5. Get popcorn early, and remember the snacks are in Celestial Park.
  6. Bring your wands and Power-Up Bands.
  7. Make time for the characters and both stage shows.
  8. Be in line for your favorite ride by 11:30 PM.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Epic Universe is a nighttime park. Seeing all five portals lit up, with room to walk and time to look around, was the magic of the night for us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Universal Nights

Is Epic Universe Better at Night?

In my opinion, yes. I think Epic Universe is at its best after dark. All five portals light up, Celestial Park glows, and the fountains and music feel completely different from the daytime.

Florida heat is also much easier on kids once the sun goes down. During Universal Nights, you get that nighttime look with far fewer people in the walkways. On October 3, we watched Universal Celestial Goodnight and then explored for about four more hours.

If your family can handle a midnight finish, the night hours are when I would want you in this park.

Is Universal Nights the Same as Halloween Horror Nights?

No, they are two different events. Halloween Horror Nights takes place at Universal Studios Florida and is built around haunted houses and scare zones.

Universal Nights is an after-hours event at Universal Epic Universe, not a haunted-house event. It is the regular park, with all five worlds open, from 9:00 PM to midnight with a limited number of guests.

My son enjoyed every minute of it. Keep in mind that Dark Universe and its regular rides may still frighten some children. Think of it as a less crowded version of a normal Epic Universe evening, with snacks and drinks included in the ticket.

Can You Stay in the Park for Universal Nights if You Are Already There?

Yes. If you spend the day in Epic Universe with a regular ticket, you do not have to leave and come back. You still need a Universal Nights ticket for the evening.

That evening, guests already inside could pick up their event wristband in the park. Day guests without a wristband had to head out when the park closed to them around 8:00 PM.

From there, Team Members checked wristbands at all five portals. Your advisor can book both the day ticket and the event ticket so the whole day is covered.

Is Universal Nights Good for a First Visit to Epic Universe?

It can be, with one caution. Our waits were short, so we fit a lot of rides into three event hours.

You will not see everything, though. Restaurants, shops and the small details in five worlds take time.

For a first visit, I would pair Universal Nights with at least one regular park day. For a return visit, it works well on its own. We had been before, and one event night gave us everything we wanted.
