Is the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast Worth It in 2026?

The Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast is the one Grinchmas extra whose popular mornings sell out within days, and Universal will soon post its 2026 dates and prices. Here is an estimate based on what last season cost, what you get for it, who it is worth it for, and how to hear from us the day 2026 reservations open.

Is the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast Worth It?

Yes, especially for a family that values unique and personal character interactions or with kids ages 3 to 9 who want a guaranteed Grinch photo without the standby line, which ran past an hour on busy dates last season and far longer on the peak ones. Last season it cost $58.99 for adults ages 10 and up and $32.99 for kids ages 3 to 9, plus tax, so a family of four invested about $184 plus tax for a two-hour sit-down meal inside Islands of Adventure.

It is not worth it for adults traveling without kids, or for a family on a one-day park ticket that cannot spare two morning hours. The food is a real breakfast, not a buffet, and the Grinch comes to every table, but the price is about three park-day lunches for the same family.

Universal has not published 2026 dates, prices or a reservation date. Last year reservations opened on October 8 and popular mornings sold out within days, which is why our Grinchmas 2026 guide runs a breakfast alert list.

What Do You Get at the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast?

Two Who performers cheer with a cymbal and a snowflake inside Circus McGurkus Cafe during the Grinch breakfast at Universal Orlando

Every seat gets the same four courses: a shared warm cinnamon roll starter for the table, one entree per person, one drink, and Grinch cookies at the end. The Grinch works the room, and the Whos from the Who-liday Spectacular, including Cindy-Lou Who, stop at each table for photos.

In fact, the character time is the biggest selling point. On a peak Grinchmas date the Grinch line at Honk Honkers can pass an hour, and the breakfast puts him at your table with a photo for every family, plus the Whos, without a queue. Each interaction with the characters feels genuine and lasts longer than a quick photo outside.

The kids’ plates are built for picky eaters: pancakes or waffles with whipped topping and colored sugar, or scrambled eggs with bacon and crinkle fries.

Meanwhile, the adult plates last season ranged from chilaquiles with fried eggs and avocado to a smoked brisket hash and a pistachio French toast, so the grown-ups are not eating a kids’ menu. The shared starter is an extra-large cinnamon roll to be devoured by the whole table.

How Much Does the Grinch Breakfast Cost for a Family?

Last season the breakfast was $58.99 per adult ages 10 and up and $32.99 per child ages 3 to 9, plus tax, and Universal has not announced 2026 prices. Here is the math for the family sizes we book most often, using last season’s prices before tax.

Family Last Season’s Price Before Tax What That Buys
2 adults, 1 child $150.97 Three plates, the Grinch and the Whos at your table, about two hours
2 adults, 2 children $183.96 The most common booking; about $46 per person
2 adults, 3 children $216.95 Still under the cost of one Universal Holiday Tour for the same five people ($349.95)
4 adults, 2 children (grandparents along) $301.94 Kids 10 and up count as adults, so check ages before you budget

For comparison, the Universal Holiday Tour is priced from $69.99 per person plus tax, includes a private Grinch and Max meet, and needs a park-to-park ticket. The tour wins for adults-only groups; the breakfast wins for families with kids under 10, because the child price is 44 percent lower than the adult price and the meal fills a morning.

On top of that, park admission is separate and required for the day of your reservation. Our Universal Orlando tickets guide covers the ticket types and the dates that cost the least, which is where a Grinchmas budget gets saved.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Book the earliest seating Universal offers; last season seatings started as early as 7 a.m. A 7 a.m. table finishes right around park opening, so the breakfast costs you no ride time and you walk to the Who-liday Spectacular ahead of the crowd. A 10 a.m. seating costs the same money plus the best three hours of the park day.

When Do Grinch Breakfast Reservations Open for 2026?

Universal has not announced the 2026 reservation date. Last year reservations opened on October 8, 2025 for a season that began November 21, so early October 2026 is the window to watch, and popular mornings went within days.

Here is how booking worked last season. Reservations were prepaid on Universal’s site, at least 24 hours ahead, with no walk-ins; you printed the confirmation or picked it up at a will-call window or kiosk, and changes went through Guest Services because seating was capped.

As a result, the family that waits for the app to show availability usually gets a weekday seating in the quietest week of the season, or nothing. Our advisors note the dates you want, reach out the day reservations open, and fit the rest of the park day around the seating.

Tell us your Grinchmas dates and we will contact you the day Universal opens 2026 breakfast reservations.

What Is on the Grinch Breakfast Menu?

Last season’s menu had eight adult entrees, three kids’ entrees, a shared starter and a Grinch-green sour apple ICEE. Universal has not posted the 2026 menu, and it changes a little each year, so treat this as an idea of the meal rather than a promise.

Adult entrees (8) Chilaquiles verdes with fried eggs and avocado; everything bagel with smoked salmon; ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote; pistachio-stuffed French toast; smoked brisket hash with a fried egg; ham and gruyere quiche; crispy chicken sandwich with maple apple fritters; vegan rancheros tostadas The chilaquiles, pictured above this table

That said, while the food is good, it isn’t the reason this event sells out so quickly. Book it for the Grinch and the holiday-dressed Whos, and count the meal as the bonus.

Who Is the Grinch Breakfast Best For, and Who Should Skip It?

A young guest reaches for a plate of mini waffles with whipped cream and berries and scrambled eggs at the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast at Universal Orlando

Best for families with children ages 3 to 9, especially first-time Grinchmas visitors and multi-generational groups where the grandparents want one sit-down moment with everyone in the same photo. It is also the right call on a peak date, December 19 through January 3, when the standby Grinch line is longest and the breakfast is the only way to guarantee the meet.

Skip it if you are adults only, on a single one-park day, or visiting on a quiet early-December weekday when the Grinch line in Seuss Landing is short enough to do standby. For those families the Universal Holiday Tour or a simple rope-drop plan gets the Grinch photo for less money or less time.

For example, a family doing two park days in the first week of December does not need it; a family doing one day the week after Christmas should book it the morning reservations open. Our guide to the holidays at Universal Orlando covers everything else that is included with admission that week.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Grandparents, do the breakfast on your first park morning, not your last. The kids see the Grinch and the Whos before the trip has worn them down, and every Grinchmas stop after that is a bonus instead of a chase. Saving it for the last day risks a 7 a.m. seating nobody in the room is awake for.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast

Do you need a park ticket for the Grinch and Friends Character Breakfast?

Yes. The breakfast is inside Islands of Adventure at Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous, so every guest needs valid park admission for that day in addition to the prepaid breakfast reservation. The reservation price does not include the ticket.

How long does the Grinch breakfast take?

Plan on about two hours from check-in to the last photo, including arriving 15 minutes before your seating. Seatings last season started as early as 7 a.m., before park opening, which is the one to book if you want the meal without losing ride time.

Can you walk in to the Grinch breakfast without a reservation?

No. Last season the breakfast required a prepaid reservation made at least 24 hours ahead, seating was capped, and walk-ins were not accepted. Popular mornings sold out within days of reservations opening on October 8, 2025.

Do you meet the Grinch at the breakfast?

Yes. The Grinch visits every table for photos during the meal, and the Whos from the Who-liday Spectacular, including Cindy-Lou Who, stop by as well. It counts as your Grinch meet for the day, so you can skip the standby line at Honk Honkers afterward.

How Can a Travel Advisor Help You Book the Grinch Breakfast?

A Favorite Grampy Travels advisor puts your family on the breakfast alert list, contacts you the day Universal opens reservations, and builds the park day around the seating so the meal costs you no ride time. That is part of our Universal Orlando vacation planning service, which also covers the hotel, tickets and the rest of Grinchmas.

Full-service planning carries a planning fee that averages around $250 per trip based on the complexity of the trip, quoted in a complimentary 15-minute consultation before you decide anything. Ticket-only and single-service requests run $0 to $200, and many straightforward ticket purchases carry no fee at all.

Reach out through our contact page or meet our agents, and we will make sure the Grinch is standing behind your grandkids’ chairs this December.
