Universal’s digital Attractions Assistance Pass (AAP) is the Halloween Horror Nights disability pass most families are asking about, and it works at every haunted house once you know where the houses hide in the app. This guide covers how to get the pass, how return times and QR scans work, and what my family saw using it across all 10 houses on two HHN 35 nights, minute by minute.
By Holly Neth, Favorite Grampy Travels Advisor | Last Updated: October 2026 | Based on my family’s two nights at HHN 35, October 1 and 2, 2026. Program rules checked against Universal Orlando’s accessibility information page on October 10, 2026.

How Does the Digital AAP Work at Halloween Horror Nights?
The digital AAP issues a haunted house return time in the Universal Orlando app. You wait outside the queue, then enter when your time arrives. The return time is based on the posted standby wait, so a 135-minute wait at Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness on October 1, 2026 produced a 135-minute return time.
Keep in mind that AAP moves the wait out of the line. It does not shorten it.
Four rules shape the whole evening. Every person in your party scans their own QR code, and Team Members cannot scan you in early. You hold one return time at a time, and the app makes you wait 15 minutes after a scan before it issues the next one.
We used the pass at all 10 houses over two nights, 4 houses on October 1 and 6 on October 2. This guide is for parents and grandparents planning HHN with a family member who uses AAP. For dates, houses and ticket prices, start with our Halloween Horror Nights 2026 guide.
What Does AAP at Halloween Horror Nights Look Like at a Glance?
The table compares what Universal publishes with what my family saw on October 1, 2026. Universal’s accessibility page covers how to get the pass and where it lives. It does not publish party size, the one-at-a-time rule, or the cooldown, so those rows are labeled as our observation and may differ on your night.

What Are the Key Facts About AAP at Halloween Horror Nights?
Can you use the Universal AAP at Halloween Horror Nights?
Yes. Universal Orlando’s accessibility page covers “attraction and haunted house queue accommodation,” and you need valid event admission to use it after regular park hours. All 10 HHN 35 houses were available in the app for us on October 1, 2026.
Is the AAP a front-of-the-line pass at HHN?
No. Your return time is based on the posted standby wait. With a 135-minute wait at Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, we waited 135 minutes, just not inside the queue.
How do you get an AAP before Halloween Horror Nights?
Register for the IBCCES Individual Accessibility Card on the IBCCES Accessibility Card site within 30 days of your visit and at least 48 hours before you arrive. Universal’s Guest Accessibility team then contacts you about the right accommodation, and the AAP is added to your Universal account.
How Do You Get an Attractions Assistance Pass Before HHN?

You start with the IBCCES Individual Accessibility Card, not with Universal. The card is issued only by IBCCES and is valid for one year. According to Universal Orlando’s accessibility information page, guests register within 30 days of their visit and at least 48 hours before arrival, and only IBCCES can issue the card.
For the application, the IBCCES Accessibility Card site lists no fee and says you do not have to share a diagnosis. You upload a photo, contact details, and a statement from a medical provider or related entity about the accommodation you need.
What Happens After IBCCES Issues the Card?
Once the card is issued, a Universal Guest Accessibility Team Member contacts you to talk through the right accommodation. If AAP is the answer, it is added to your Universal account and shows up in the Universal Orlando app. Universal also lists two phone numbers, (407) 224-4233 and (833) 892-4365, for guests who cannot register in advance.
Two more things matter for HHN. Your Halloween Horror Nights ticket must be linked to the same Universal account, because the app will not issue a house return time without it. Guests who do not want to use the app can visit Guest Services for an alternate method.
Where Are the Haunted Houses Hiding in the App?

The haunted houses do not appear on your AAP screen by themselves. You have to search for them by name. When we opened the AAP section on October 1, the HHN houses were not listed with the day rides, and scrolling never surfaced them.
They were available, just tucked behind the search bar on the Eligible Attractions tab.
Here is the path that worked for us:
- Open the Universal Orlando app and tap Profile.
- Scroll down and tap Attraction Queue Accommodations.
- Tap About AAP, then choose the Eligible Attractions tab.
- Type the house name in the search bar. “H.R.” was enough to bring up H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular!
- Tap the house, then tap Make an AAP Return Time.
After we figured that out, requesting return times went quickly. The search bar is the trick.
Before HHN starts, open the app and practice finding the AAP section. The last thing you want is to burn 10 minutes of event time hunting for a house in the app.
Does Everyone in Your Party Need Their Own QR Code?

Yes, each of the 4 people in our party had a separate QR code. At every house we entered, the Team Member scanned the 4 codes one at a time. The AAP holder had to be present for the party to enter, and the scan is the moment the return time is enforced, so have all 4 codes ready before you reach the scanner.
In fact, that surprised us. During the digital rollout, I expected one code for the group, the way a physical pass once worked. Instead, each person’s code lives in their own spot in the app.
Because of that, know how to pull up every family member’s code before you reach the scanner. On our night, having all 4 ready made the hand-off easy for us and for the Team Member.
For example, when we arrived with codes ready, scanning took well under a minute. When a code took a few taps to find, the family behind us was waiting too.
Can You Enter a House Before Your AAP Return Time?

No. Your return time is enforced when your QR code is scanned. The system will not let a Team Member scan you in early, even by 2 minutes.
That said, where the scanner sits changes what “early” means, because at some houses the scanner is well inside the Express queue, and at Jack & Oddfellow it was right at the point we reached it.
At the houses with a deeper scanner, we arrived a few minutes before our time and were allowed to start walking into the Express queue. By the time we reached the scanner, our return time had arrived.
Our Experience at Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control
Jack & Oddfellow was the exception. Our return time was 8:49 PM, and we walked up 2 minutes early.
Even so, the scanner there was positioned right where we reached it before 8:49 PM. We stood to the side until the exact minute before our codes would scan.
It was not a big deal, but it is worth knowing. Plan to arrive at your return time, not before it, and treat any early walk-in as a bonus you should never count on.
Can You Check Other AAP Return Times While You Hold One?

Not easily, and this was my biggest frustration with the digital system at HHN. Once we held an active return time, I could not back out of that screen to browse the other houses and compare their AAP times. The only way back was to clear the active return-time display, which restarted the process.
Meanwhile, on a regular park day I like to watch wait times and plan our next move. During HHN, that was not nearly as convenient.
To see the return time we already held, I had to navigate back through Attraction Queue Accommodations and tap My Return Times again. It is not the most user-friendly flow.
In practice, that means deciding on your next house before you request a return time. Once you hold one, comparing other options becomes a chore.
How Long Is the Wait Between AAP Return Times?

In our experience, 15 minutes, because the app held our next return time that long after each scan. The countdown started when we were scanned into the house, not when we walked out of it. After our 8:49 PM scan at Jack & Oddfellow, the app told us at 8:57 PM to wait until 9:04 PM before creating the next one.
Depending on how long the queue and the house take, you may already be out by the time the 15 minutes end. On a fast house, you may have a few minutes to spare.
Use that gap on purpose. Grab a drink, take photos in a scare zone, or start walking toward the general area of your next house. The system is not ready for your next request the moment you exit, so plan for it.
Keep in mind that the 15-minute cooldown is our observation from October 1, 2026, not a figure Universal publishes on its accessibility page.
How Long Did We Really Wait With AAP at HHN?

We waited the full posted time. At Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, the standby wait was 135 minutes when we requested our return time, and our return time was 135 minutes out. We entered the queue at 7:40 PM, exited the house at about 8:00 PM, and spent about 155 minutes from request to exit.
| Our Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness Visit | Time |
|---|---|
| Posted standby wait | 135 minutes |
| AAP return-time wait | 135 minutes |
| Entered the queue | 7:40 PM |
| Exited the house | About 8:00 PM |
| Queue entry to exit | About 20 minutes |
| Request to exit, total | About 155 minutes |

Posted waits and times recorded by Holly Neth on October 1, 2026, Eastern Time.
So we spent about 20 minutes physically moving through the queue and the house, after 135 minutes of waiting for our time. That distinction matters, because I hear the same misunderstanding every fall. AAP is not a front-of-the-line pass, and it does not erase the wait.
What Does Our Family Do During Those 135 Minutes?
Whatever my son needs that night. Sometimes that is a ride with a short wait, a spell or two in the Wizarding World, or a slow walk through the scare zones. A quieter park is the same reason our Universal Nights at Epic Universe evening worked so well for him.
Sometimes it is nothing at all. On October 1, we made the mistake of trying a traditional standby queue earlier in the evening, and it was far too much for him. By the time we got out, he was overwhelmed and needed a break.
So instead of squeezing in another attraction while we waited for Ozzy, we found a quieter corner of the park and sat down. No rushing, no pressure to be somewhere else, no worrying about what we were missing.
That is exactly why accommodations like AAP matter to our family. The goal is for him to enjoy what we do experience, and those 135 minutes of decompressing made the rest of the night possible.

Plan My HHN Night With HollyWhat Worked Well and What Could Be Better?

The digital AAP made HHN manageable for us across all 10 houses on two nights, and 3 fixes would make it better. On the plus side, we requested every return time from the app, scanned 4 codes in under a minute when they were ready, and spent 20 minutes in a queue that was posting 135. The frustrations were all about finding things in the app, not about the accommodation itself.
What We Liked
- Requesting haunted house return times directly from the Universal Orlando app.
- Not having to physically visit a house just to request a return time.
- Having each of the 4 party members’ QR codes ready in the app.
- Entering through the Express queue when our return time arrived.
- Spending far less time physically standing in long queues.
What Could Be Better
- The houses should be easier to find. Manual search for each house is not intuitive if you do not already know the trick.
- Browsing other AAP return times while holding one. Seeing the options would make planning the evening much simpler.
- Navigation. Leaving the current screen and working back through Attraction Queue Accommodations to find an existing return time is clumsy.
None of these ruined our night. Every one of them is worth knowing before you arrive.
What Are My Best Tips for Families Using AAP at HHN?

Get comfortable with the app before you arrive, and plan each house before you request it. Those 2 habits would have saved us the most time on October 1. These are the 7 things I would tell a friend before she goes:
- Find the AAP section at home. Know where Attraction Queue Accommodations, the Eligible Attractions tab, and your party’s QR codes live.
- Search for each house by name. Do not assume a house is unavailable because it did not appear automatically.
- Have every QR code ready. Each member of your party will be scanned.
- Arrive at your exact return time. Even 2 minutes early did not get us scanned in at Jack & Oddfellow.
- Pick your next house before you request. Comparing AAP times while holding one is hard.
- Remember the 15-minute gap. You cannot request the next return time right after a scan.
- Stay flexible. Each house has a different queue layout, and your night will not look like ours.
On top of that, check Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights event page before you go. HHN 35 runs select nights from August 28 through November 1, 2026, and Universal does not recommend the event for children under 13.

Frequently Asked Questions About AAP at Halloween Horror Nights
Does the Universal AAP Cost Money?
The Universal Attractions Assistance Pass has no price listed on Universal’s accessibility page, and IBCCES lists no fee for the Individual Accessibility Card. Every guest still needs a Halloween Horror Nights ticket, and the app will not issue a house return time until that ticket is linked to the account.
In fact, my family has never been charged for either the card or the pass on any trip. What does cost money is the event itself, and if you want shorter physical lines beyond what AAP provides, that is what the paid HHN Express Pass is for. Our Universal Express Pass guide explains how that product works and who it fits.
How Many People Can Use One AAP at HHN?
The app lets you link up to 5 additional guests to the AAP holder, so one pass covers a party of 6. Universal’s accessibility page does not publish that number, so treat it as my experience with the app rather than a posted rule. On October 1, 2026, one return time covered all 4 of us, because we are a family of 4.
The AAP holder is required on every return time, and companions can be checked or unchecked in the app before confirming. In our case, the app would not let me uncheck my son, which makes sense, because the accommodation is his. If your group is larger than 6, your advisor can help you plan how to split the party before the Guest Accessibility team contacts you about your card.
Can You Use AAP and Express Pass Together at HHN?
AAP and HHN Express Pass are separate products. AAP issues a return time based on the standby wait, and Express Pass is a paid add-on that shortens the physical line for anyone who buys it. Universal prices Express Pass separately from admission, and our HHN 2026 guide shows it running roughly $200 to $310 per person depending on the date.
My family did not buy Express Pass on our night, and AAP alone was enough to make the evening work. For a family of 4, Express is a big line item, so a family that wants to fit in more houses should talk that through with an advisor before buying.
What Is Different About AAP at HHN Compared to a Regular Park Day?
AAP at Halloween Horror Nights differs from a regular park day in 3 ways. The haunted houses must be searched for by name instead of appearing on the AAP screen, every house requires a linked event ticket, and return times run far longer. On October 1, 2026, Sinners posted 130 minutes at 8:15 PM and Ozzy posted 135 minutes, so one house can fill most of an evening.
The rest of the mechanics felt the same to us. One return time at a time, individual QR codes, and a short wait before the next request. On a regular day, a 25-minute posted wait means a quick return time, and at HHN you should plan for the opposite.
