When Does Universal’s Holiday Parade Start This Season?

Universal hasn’t posted the 2026 start time yet. As of November 7, 2026, its parade page and showtime listings give dates but no time. Last season, the parade started at 5:30 p.m., and Universal lists each night’s time in the Universal Orlando Resort app.

The parade itself is set. It runs all 51 nights of the season, November 14, 2026 through January 3, 2027, at Universal Studios Florida, and it’s included with park admission.

My call for families booking now: plan your parade night around a 5:30 p.m. start, then confirm the time in the app that morning. The new piece for 2026 is Earl the Squirrel, a 30.4-foot balloon that joins the lineup in early December.

Our Grinchmas 2026 guide covers the rest of Universal’s holiday season. Here are the parade facts at a glance.

Universal says the Earl the Squirrel balloon stands 30.4 feet tall and 14.5 feet wide, and it joins the Orlando parade in early December after its Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade debut on November 26.

What’s in Universal’s Holiday Parade This Year?

The parade pairs giant Macy’s balloons with floats themed to Universal’s own characters. According to Universal’s parade page, you’ll see characters from Despicable Me, Shrek and Madagascar, along with classic holiday favorites.

It ends the same way every night. Santa leads a Christmas tree lighting to close the show, which makes the finale the moment most families want a clear view of.

Universal’s August 6 holiday announcement calls it a nightly parade, so you don’t need a special date to see it. That’s a big plus for a family on a short trip.

Universal doesn’t publish the order of the floats or a run time. Last season the parade ran about 30 minutes, according to Nikki Hendrix, our CEO and Founder, who watched it in person.

Add the 30 to 45 minutes you’ll wait for a curb spot, and parade night takes about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. I’d stay in your spot until Santa and the tree, since that’s the part your kids will talk about at dinner. If you’ve got little ones who fade after dark, a parade near the start of your trip works better than one at the end.

When Does Earl the Squirrel Join the Parade?

Earl is Universal Orlando’s own holiday character, and 2026 is his biggest year yet. Universal’s Earl the Squirrel announcement says his new balloon debuts in the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on November 26.

After that, the balloon heads to Orlando and joins Universal’s Holiday Parade in early December. Universal hasn’t named the first night, so I wouldn’t promise Earl to your kids on a November visit.

The balloon is 30.4 feet tall and 14.5 feet wide, and it shows Earl in his winter cap holding a blue Christmas light. His story started nearly two decades ago with a real squirrel that kept stealing blue lights from the park’s Christmas tree.

Families on a November trip can still meet Earl. Universal says he’ll do meet and greets daily in Universal Studios Florida and on weekends at CityWalk starting November 14. The Macy’s parade airs at 8:30 a.m. on NBC and Peacock on Thanksgiving morning.

Where and When Should Families Stake Out a Parade Spot?

The Universal Studios globe stands at the entrance to Universal Studios Florida in Orlando

Universal calls the parade a park-wide performance at Universal Studios Florida. It doesn’t publish a 2026 route on its parade page. Ask a Team Member for the route when you arrive, or check the park map in the Universal Orlando Resort app.

Pick a spot where your kids can see the finale. The parade ends with Santa lighting the Christmas tree, so a curb with a view toward the tree beats a spot near the start of the route.

Universal’s own holiday guide suggests reaching your viewing area 25 to 30 minutes before the parade. I’d aim for at least 30 minutes, and closer to 45 on weekends, during Christmas week, or when a clear view of the tree lighting matters to your family.

The extra time on busy nights is my planning advice, not a Universal rule. Bring a small blanket for little ones to sit on, and let one adult hold the spot while the other grabs snacks.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Until Universal posts the 2026 time, plan your evening as if the parade starts at 5:30 p.m., last season’s time. Then check the Universal Orlando Resort app the morning of your visit and adjust. If the time moves, you’ll only need to shift dinner.

What Happens to the Parade If It Rains or Gets Windy?

There’s no published rain plan for the parade. Universal’s parade page only says entertainment details can change or be canceled without notice, so it helps to know what bad weather has looked like in past seasons.

A passing shower can push the start back. On opening night in 2023, bad weather delayed the parade about 15 minutes. It then ran in what looked like a weather-modified version, with the balloons flown low and no stilt walkers or falling snow.

Wind mostly affects the balloons, and Universal hasn’t published a wind limit for them. Lightning is the real parade-stopper: when storms are close, a night’s parade can be canceled outright.

Don’t save the parade for your last night. It runs every night of the season, so seeing it early in your trip leaves you a backup night if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

Can You Reserve a Parade Viewing Spot?

Minions appear in Universal's holiday parade featuring Macy's at Universal Studios Florida

Yes, but only as part of the Universal Holiday Tour. Universal’s holidays page says the tour includes optional reserved viewing for the parade, along with meet and greets with the Grinch, Max and Santa and reserved seats for the Grinchmas show.

The tour starts at $69.99 per person plus tax on select dates, November 14, 2026 through January 2, 2027. Universal’s booking calendar showed tour prices from about $70 to $120 per person by date as of November 6, and theme park tickets are extra.

Don’t buy the tour just for a parade spot. A family of four would pay at least $279.96 plus tax for the tour, while a 30- to 45-minute wait for a curb spot costs nothing extra.

Buy the tour if your kids want the Grinch, Max and Santa without the standby lines. Then the parade spot is a bonus, not the reason.

Which Nights Are Least Crowded for the Parade?

Our Universal Orlando crowd calendar forecasts Universal Studios Florida on a 1 to 10 scale for every day. The calmest parade nights in the forecast are November 15, 18 and 19, all at level 5.

Early December is the sweet spot for families who want Earl. Most weeknights from December 1 through December 11 sit at level 6, and Universal says Earl joins the lineup in early December.

Avoid Christmas week if you can. Universal Studios Florida is a level 10 on December 19 and every day from December 24 through December 29, and Saturdays like December 5 and 12 jump to level 8.

For Earl, I’d aim for Monday through Thursday, December 7 to 10, and confirm in the app that he’s in the lineup. If Earl doesn’t matter, Wednesday or Thursday, November 18 or 19, is the calmest parade night of the season.

How Do You Pair the Parade With Grinchmas in One Evening?

A Grinchmas sign with candy cane decorations at sunset in Seuss Landing at Universal Islands of Adventure

Grinchmas is at Islands of Adventure, and the parade is at Universal Studios Florida. Seeing both in one day takes a park-to-park ticket.

That ticket’s price changes by date. Our ticket price tracker showed a 1-day park-to-park adult ticket at $184.99 to $244.99 before tax across the holiday season, as of November 6, 2026. On December 7 to 10, it was $199.99 for adults and $194.99 for kids.

For one evening, spend the afternoon in Seuss Landing for the Grinchmas show and the Grinch. Eat before you cross to Universal Studios Florida, or save dinner for after the parade, and leave extra time if you plan to ride the Hogwarts Express between the parks.

The night doesn’t have to end with the parade, either. Universal’s holiday guide lists The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle every evening from dusk to park close, back at Islands of Adventure, so a park-to-park ticket covers both.

Our Grinchmas 2026 dates and show times post lists the show schedule, and our Universal Studios Orlando holiday guide covers the rest of the season.
