What Is Disney’s Wilderness Lodge?

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a Deluxe Resort in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area. It is styled after the national park lodges of the early 1900s.

Standard rooms sleep up to four guests, with published 2027 rates from about $611 to $1,095 a night for a Resort View room. Two villa wings, Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, add studios, villas and lakefront cabins that sleep up to 12.

According to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge page, guests reach the parks by boat and bus. The lobby features totem poles, a stone hearth and a roaring fireplace, and rocking chairs overlook a creek outside.

I wrote this guide for parents and grandparents choosing a Deluxe resort near Magic Kingdom. It is one spoke of our Walt Disney World resort tiers guide, which compares every category side by side.

Wilderness Lodge Quick Facts

Is Wilderness Lodge a Deluxe resort?
Yes. Disney lists Wilderness Lodge as a Deluxe Resort, and its 2 villa wings, Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek, as Deluxe Villas.

How do you get from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom?
By boat or bus. Disney lists 2 kinds of transportation for the resort, and there is no monorail station.

How many people fit in a Wilderness Lodge room?
Up to 4 in a standard room with 2 queen beds, and up to 6 in the Deluxe Room with Club Level access.

What Are the Rooms Like at Wilderness Lodge?

A hotel room at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge featuring a queen bed, a small sofa, and floor-to-ceiling curtains covering a balcony door. - Favorite Grampy Travels

Standard rooms come with two queen beds or one king bed. Every room has a balcony or patio, a beverage cooler and a coffee station.

Disney sells the hotel rooms in three view categories. Resort View rooms face landscaping, trees, rooftops or parking areas, while Water View rooms face the pool, the waterfall, Bay Lake or Copper Creek. Fireworks View rooms add a partial view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

Room Type Beds Sleeps Published 2027 Nightly Rates
Resort View 2 queens or 1 king 4 or 2 About $611 to $1,095
Water View 2 queens or 1 king 4 or 2 About $683 to $1,117
Fireworks View 2 queens or 1 king 4 or 2 About $846 to $1,318
Resort View, Club Level 2 queens or 1 king 4 or 2 About $902 to $1,516
Deluxe Room, Club Level access 2 queens and 1 queen sleeper sofa 6 About $1,158 to $2,064

That four-guest limit matters. Most other Disney Deluxe resorts fit five in a standard room, so a family of five needs a different plan here.

What Does Club Level Add?

Club Level rooms include key access to the Old Faithful Club lounge. Disney says the lounge serves refreshments from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, and Club Level guests also get complimentary health club access.

In addition, the Deluxe Room with Club Level access is the largest hotel room at the Lodge. It sleeps six with two queen beds and a queen sleeper sofa.

How Much Does Wilderness Lodge Cost per Night?

Resort View rooms cost about $611 to $1,095 a night. That range comes from published 2027 rates with taxes included, and weekend nights cost more than weeknights.

The lowest prices land in mid-August and early September. The highest fall from December 24 to 31, when a Fireworks View room reaches about $1,318 and a Deluxe Room with Club Level access about $2,064.

Next, look at what each step up costs. In the lowest season, Water View adds about $72 a night over Resort View, and Fireworks View adds about $235 or more.

Of course, Disney discounts are occasionally available on Deluxe rooms. Our advisors follow announcements closely and can have your preferences on file.

What Are the Villas and Cabins at Wilderness Lodge?

Wilderness Lodge has two Deluxe Villa wings, and any family can book them with cash. Both share the Lodge’s pools, restaurants and boat dock.

First, Boulder Ridge Villas recalls the 1860s railroad hotels of the American West. Its Deluxe Studios sleep five, which no standard hotel room at the Lodge can do. One- and two-bedroom villas add a full kitchen, a washer and dryer and separate bedrooms.

Meanwhile, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins offers studios, villas up to a three-bedroom Grand Villa for 12, and two-bedroom cabins on Bay Lake. Each cabin sleeps eight and has a double-sided fireplace and a porch with a built-in hot tub.

Stay Wing Sleeps Published 2027 Nightly Rates
Deluxe Studio Boulder Ridge 5 About $611 to $1,095
1-Bedroom Villa Boulder Ridge 4 About $884 to $1,568
2-Bedroom Villa Boulder Ridge 8 About $1,422 to $2,848
Deluxe Studio Copper Creek 4 About $608 to $1,088
1-Bedroom Villa Copper Creek 4 About $986 to $1,631
2-Bedroom Villa Copper Creek 8 About $1,478 to $2,925
3-Bedroom Grand Villa Copper Creek 12 About $3,196 to $5,984
2-Bedroom Cabin Copper Creek 8 About $3,013 to $5,666

For a group of six or more, a two-bedroom villa usually beats two hotel rooms. Our multi-generational Disney World trip guide walks through that stay-together decision.

Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Traveling with five? Price a Boulder Ridge Deluxe Studio before you book two hotel rooms. Its published 2027 rates begin at about $611 a night, the same as a Resort View room, and it sleeps one more person.

Where Can You Eat at Wilderness Lodge?

A family of four shares a meal at a round table in a rustic log-beamed restaurant at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. - Favorite Grampy Travels

Disney lists five dining spots at Wilderness Lodge. Two are full restaurants, and one of those is a character dinner.

What Is Story Book Dining at Artist Point?

Story Book Dining at Artist Point is a prix fixe character dinner with Snow White, Dopey and Grumpy. The Queen also poses for photos, if your kids dare. Disney lists dinner from 4:00 PM to 9:15 PM at more than $60 per adult.

For dinner, the menu includes prime rib, herbed chicken and a slow-braised pork shank, with shared appetizers and desserts for the table. On the Disney Dining Plan, it uses two table-service credits per person.

My family’s favorite character meal is still breakfast at The Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. Even so, Story Book Dining is the one I point families to when a child loves Snow White, because the whole evening is built around her story.

What Is Whispering Canyon Cafe Like?

Whispering Canyon Cafe serves all-you-care-to-enjoy skillets, family-style, in a log cabin setting. Brunch runs from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM at $15 to $34.99 per adult. Dinner runs from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at $35 to $59.99.

Disney describes the servers as playful, with a reputation for teasing guests. Most kids love it, but a shy child or a tired grandparent may want a quieter meal.

Where Can You Grab a Quick Meal?

Roaring Fork is the quick-service spot, open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM with mobile ordering. It serves Mickey-shaped waffles at breakfast, then burgers, sandwiches and house-smoked barbecue.

Beyond that, Geyser Point Bar & Grill sits beside the main pool. Territory Lounge opens from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM with small plates and Northwestern beers and wines.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Book Story Book Dining for an arrival night or a rest day. It is at your own resort, so no park ticket is used, and nobody has to rush back from a park for a 4:00 PM seating.

What Are the Pools and Recreation Like?

A large outdoor swimming pool at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, featuring rocky landscaping and guests swimming, viewed from a wooden deck. - Favorite Grampy Travels

Wilderness Lodge has two pools. The main one is built into a rocky creek and according to Disney’s pools page, Copper Creek Springs Pool is heated and has a 67-foot waterslide.

It also has hot and cold whirlpool spas and a children’s water play area. Its waterfall is fed by a spring that begins inside the lobby, a detail kids enjoy tracing.

For a quieter swim, Boulder Ridge Cove Pool sits among the villas. It has a zero-depth entry, a whirlpool spa and six shaded seating areas that are first come, first served.

On top of that, Disney lists arcades, campfires, fishing excursions, motorized boat rentals, running trails and Movies Under the Stars. Recreation hosts also run daily pool games, relays and trivia.

How Do You Get From Wilderness Lodge to the Parks?

Disney lists two kinds of transportation for Wilderness Lodge: boat and bus. Magic Kingdom is a short boat ride away, and every other park is a bus ride.

How Does the Boat to Magic Kingdom Work?

The boat leaves from the dock behind the Lodge and crosses the water to the park entrance. There is no monorail stop and no walking path to Magic Kingdom, so the boat is the star.

My family loves rope drop at Magic Kingdom and staying until the castle lights are the last thing on Main Street. A boat ride home across a dark lake is a gentler ending than a crowded bus, and I would plan around it.

How Do You Reach the Other Parks?

Buses run to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. In practice, several of those routes are shared with Fort Wilderness next door, which adds a stop.

Right now, construction around the Lodge has changed some bus routes, and a few rides run longer than usual. Ask your advisor what to expect during your dates. For a faster ride to EPCOT, our Disney’s Contemporary Resort guide covers the monorail alternative across the lake.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Split your park days by transportation. Put Magic Kingdom on the days you want the boat, and group EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom on days when a longer bus ride will not cost you a nap.

What Should You Know About Construction Right Now?

A tall, brightly lit Christmas tree stands in the timbered lobby of Disney's Wilderness Lodge, surrounded by balconies hung with garland. - Favorite Grampy Travels

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge pages carry a construction and refurbishment notice. Exterior work on the Lodge and Copper Creek is expected to continue through late 2026.

For now, most amenities stay open during the work. That said, guests may see and hear construction during the day, and some views may be affected.

Next door, Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open on July 1, 2027. Until then, expect building activity along that side of Bay Lake.

Inside, the lobby remains the heart of the resort. During the holidays, a towering Christmas tree fills it, and the photo above shows why families linger there.

What Disney Benefits Do Wilderness Lodge Guests Get?

Wilderness Lodge guests get every Disney Resort hotel benefit, plus the Deluxe extra. According to Disney’s resort benefits page, that starts with Early Theme Park Entry. It runs 30 minutes before opening at all four parks, every day of your stay.

As a Deluxe Resort, the Lodge also qualifies for Extended Evening Theme Park Hours on select nights. Villa and cabin guests qualify too.

Guests can also buy Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days before check-in. Dining reservations open 60 days ahead for the whole stay, up to 10 nights, and our dining reservation calculator shows your first booking morning.

Favorite Grampy’s Review: Is Wilderness Lodge Worth It?

Yes, for Magic Kingdom families who want atmosphere over speed. It is a weaker pick for a family of five or an EPCOT-heavy trip.

This review is an advisor-tested verdict, not a diary of one stay. It weighs Disney’s published details against years of Disney trips with four grandkids in tow.

Category My Rating Why
Setting and theming Excellent A national park lodge with a creek, a waterfall and a grand timbered lobby
Magic Kingdom access Good A short boat ride, but no monorail and no walking path
Access to other parks Fair Bus only, with some routes shared with Fort Wilderness
Rooms Fair Comfortable, but standard rooms sleep four, not five
Villas and cabins Excellent Studios for five, villas for up to 12 and lakefront cabins with hot tubs
Dining Good A Snow White character dinner and skillets at Whispering Canyon Cafe
Pools Good A 67-foot waterslide at the main pool and a quiet zero-depth entry pool
Value for a Deluxe Good Extended Evening Hours at a lower price than the monorail resorts
Right now Fair Exterior work through late 2026 and a new resort rising next door

Swipe left to see all columns on mobile.

What Do I Like Most?

The theming is some of the best at Walt Disney World. All four of my grandkids stayed with me at Animal Kingdom Lodge, the other great lodge-style Deluxe. Wilderness Lodge trades those savanna views for a boat to Magic Kingdom.

Better yet, the price is friendlier than its neighbors. Wilderness Lodge usually costs less than the monorail resorts across the lake, and it still earns Extended Evening Hours.

What Gives Me Pause?

The four-guest room limit is the biggest catch. A family of five must move up to a Boulder Ridge studio or the Deluxe Room with Club Level access, and that changes the budget.

Meanwhile, transportation beyond Magic Kingdom is ordinary. Bus rides to the other three parks take longer than a monorail or Skyliner trip, and construction is adding noise and detours through late 2026.

Who Should Book It, and Who Should Skip It?

Book Wilderness Lodge if Magic Kingdom is your main park, your kids love Snow White, or you want a Deluxe resort that feels calm. Ben is 10 now, and a lodge with a waterslide, a campfire and a boat is right in his sweet spot.

I’d skip it for a trip built around EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. I would also wait for the work to wrap up if construction noise would spoil a once-in-a-decade trip.

For example, families who want the woods at a lower price should compare the campsites in our Fort Wilderness guide. Our Animal Kingdom Lodge review covers the other lodge-style Deluxe.

Favorite Grampy
Favorite Grampy’s Insider Tip Skip the Fireworks View upgrade unless the view is the point of your trip. At about $235 or more a night over Resort View, a family could put that money toward the Snow White dinner and still come out ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions About Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Can You Walk From Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom?

No. Wilderness Lodge has no walking path and no monorail to Magic Kingdom, so guests take the boat or a bus.

The boat is the better choice on most days. It drops you near the park entrance, and the ride across the water feels like part of the vacation.

In bad weather, boats can pause, and buses take over. I would always leave extra time on a morning with a breakfast reservation inside the park.

What Is the Best Room for a Family of Five at Wilderness Lodge?

A Deluxe Studio at Boulder Ridge Villas is the best value for five. It sleeps five with a queen bed, a second pull-down or sleeper bed and a single pull-down bed.

Its published 2027 rates start at about the same price as a Resort View hotel room. The trade-off is a kitchenette instead of a full kitchen and one bathroom for five people.

If you want more space, the Deluxe Room with Club Level access sleeps six. Larger families should price a one- or two-bedroom villa before booking two hotel rooms.

Is Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness Better for Families?

Wilderness Lodge is better for families who want hotel comforts and the quickest trip to Magic Kingdom. Fort Wilderness is better for campers, dog owners and tight budgets.

Both sit on Bay Lake, and both use boats and buses. The Lodge keeps everything within a short walk, while Fort Wilderness spreads across 750 acres and takes longer to get around.

Even better, you do not have to choose blind. Tell your advisor how many park days you plan, and I would let that answer decide.

Is Wilderness Lodge Good for Toddlers and Young Kids?

Yes. Little ones get a children’s water play area at the main pool, a zero-depth entry at the quiet pool and a character dinner downstairs.

The boat helps too. The ride back from Magic Kingdom is short, which makes a midday nap realistic.

For families with a child under 5, I would ask for a room close to the lobby. That keeps the walk to dinner, the pool and the dock short at the end of a long day.

How Can a Travel Advisor Help You Book Wilderness Lodge?

Choosing the Lodge is the easy part. Picking between three view categories, Club Level, two villa wings and a cabin takes more work.

An FGT advisor brings destination expertise to those choices and prices the options side by side for your dates. After you book, your advisor watches prices on every trip and can reprice your eligible booking if a qualifying offer appears.

Our planning comes with a planning fee, and the amount depends on your trip. Your advisor shares it during a complimentary 15-minute consultation and works out the details with you.
