The Skyliner is not a novelty, it is a time machine. Walking from a Jamaica building to the station and stepping into a gondola beats waiting for a Hollywood Studios bus by a comfortable margin on most mornings, and there is no line to board when you travel with a stroller.
Room quality is the second edge. The refurbished Caribbean Beach rooms with two queens and a child-size pull-down bed are, in my view, the most usable standard rooms in the Moderate tier for a family of five with young kids.
Best of all, the pool complex punches above the tier. The 82-foot slide and the shipwreck splash zone give you a legitimate reason to burn a full afternoon at the resort instead of dragging tired kids back into a park.
Where the Other Moderates Win
Port Orleans French Quarter beats Caribbean Beach on walkability by a wide margin. It is the smallest resort on Disney property, which means one bus stop and short walks to everything, and that matters more than families expect on day four.
Port Orleans Riverside wins on capacity. Its Alligator Bayou rooms sleep five adults rather than four plus a child, which is the difference between one room and two for families with older teens.
Coronado Springs wins on grown-up polish. Gran Destino Tower gives you interior corridors, elevators, and Deluxe-caliber rooms at a Moderate-plus price, and Caribbean Beach has nothing comparable.
My Verdict, and Who Should Skip It
I would not book Caribbean Beach for a Magic Kingdom-heavy first trip with toddlers. The internal bus loop, the two-story buildings without elevators, and the sheer walking distance from Trinidad to Old Port Royale all work against you when the itinerary points north.
I would book it, and I have, for any trip where EPCOT and Hollywood Studios carry the schedule. The Skyliner turns two park days into easy ones, and the resort itself is genuinely pleasant to come back to at night.
That said, be clear-eyed about one gap. Caribbean Beach guests do not receive Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, which Disney reserves for Deluxe and Deluxe Villa hotels. Families who value nighttime park access should price a Deluxe before committing.
