Are Universal Orlando Vacation Packages Worth It, or Is Room-Only Plus Tickets Cheaper?

Sometimes, and the only way to know is to price it both ways for your dates. A Universal Orlando vacation package puts your hotel and park tickets on one reservation through Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations, and whether it beats booking the room and the tickets separately depends on your travel dates, your hotel and which promotions are running when you book (some offers apply only to packages, and some room-only rates undercut them). Favorite Grampy Travels, a Universal U-Preferred Platinum agency with 80-plus concierge travel advisors and a 5.0 Google rating across more than 400 reviews, prices your trip both ways before you commit, so you book whichever costs less for the same room and the same tickets, for a planning fee that averages around $250 per trip (ticket-only and single-service requests run $0 to $200, and many carry no fee at all).

WHAT IS IN A PACKAGE

What Does a Universal Orlando Vacation Package Include?

A Universal Orlando vacation package is a hotel stay and park tickets booked together on one reservation. Here is what is in it, what comes with the hotel rather than the package, and what is never included:

  • In the package: your room at a Universal hotel (or a partner hotel) plus multi-day park tickets, single-park or park-to-park, with ticket types that can include Epic Universe depending on the ticket and your dates. Everything sits under one confirmation with one deposit and one final payment date.
  • Comes with the hotel, package or not: Early Park Admission for Universal hotel guests, and Unlimited Express Pass for guests of the three Signature resorts, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. No other Universal hotel includes Express Pass.
  • Never included: Express Pass for Epic Universe (it is a separate purchase at every hotel, including the Signature three), airport transfers, and Express Pass at the Prime Value, Value and Helios Grand hotels. Travel protection can be added; we walk you through the options and you decide.

Not sure a package fits at all? Our Universal Orlando tickets guide covers buying tickets on their own, and the Express Pass room calculator shows whether a Signature hotel pays for itself against buying Express Pass separately.

What Does It Cost to Have Us Book Your Universal Package?

We offer several levels of service depending on how much help you need. Many straightforward multi-day ticket purchases and other simple transactions do not have a planning fee.

For families who want our elevated, hands-on planning experience, fees are based on the complexity of the trip and typically average around $250. This may include personalized hotel recommendations, Epic Universe strategy, Express Pass guidance, dining assistance, and coordinating plans for larger or multigenerational families.

Your exact fee will be discussed during your complimentary 15-minute consultation, so you will know the cost before deciding to move forward. Planning fees are separate from the cost of your trip and are non-refundable. Universal does pay a small commission on select products. However, our recommendations are never based on commission and always based on what we believe is the best fit for your family’s unique travel needs.

How to Choose Who Books Your Universal Package

Check the U-Preferred Tier

Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations ranks agencies in five U-Preferred tiers earned on Universal sales: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Ask which tier the agency holds. Favorite Grampy Travels holds Platinum, the second-highest tier, which means faster, more accurate answers from Universal and stronger access when something on your booking needs fixing.

Ask How They Price a Package

A good Universal agent prices the package against room-only plus separate tickets for your exact dates, tells you which hotels include Unlimited Express Pass and Early Park Admission, and says plainly that Epic Universe Express Pass is a separate purchase at every hotel. If the answer is "packages are always the best deal," keep looking.

Ask What Happens After You Book

Universal releases promotions after many families have already booked. Ask whether the agency watches for them and reprices an eligible reservation, who you call mid-trip if a room or ticket problem comes up, and whether that person is your advisor or a general help line. Favorite Grampy Travels assigns one advisor from first call to check-out.

From "Which Hotel?" to "Package Booked": How It Works

Here’s exactly what booking a Universal package with us looks like, including the parts most agencies skip.

Step 1: Complimentary 15-minute consultation. We learn about your trip and quote your exact fee before you commit.

Step 2: Invoice is sent. Once you’re ready, we get started.

Step 3: Priced both ways. Package versus room-only plus tickets for your dates, with the Express Pass and Early Park Admission math spelled out.

Step 4: Package booked and finalized: hotel, tickets, Express Pass if you want it, dining, logistics.

Step 5: Final / pre-trip consultation. You walk in with a plan.

Step 6: Mid-trip check-in. We’re reachable while you’re in the parks.

Step 7: Post-trip follow-up. Welcome home; let’s plan the next one.

Steps 3, 6 and 7 are where we’re different: we price it both ways, and we don’t disappear once you’ve left home.

Universal Orlando Vacation Package Questions Families Ask Us

Sometimes. A package puts your hotel and park tickets on one reservation, and it beats room-only plus separate tickets only when a package promotion applies to your dates and hotel; on other dates the separate route costs less for the same room and tickets.

Favorite Grampy Travels prices both for your exact dates before you book and shows you the two totals side by side. Either way you keep the hotel benefits, since Early Park Admission and, at the three Signature hotels, Unlimited Express Pass come with the room, not the package.

Often, but not always. Universal runs package promotions on some dates and room-only rate offers on others, so the cheaper route changes with the calendar.

Booking separately also lets you buy tickets from a different seller than the hotel, which is sometimes the lowest total. We price the package, the room-only-plus-tickets route and, where it applies, the split-seller route, and tell you the numbers. Our Universal Orlando tickets guide covers the ticket side on its own.

Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel. Every guest in the room gets Unlimited Express Pass for Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure for the length of the stay, whether you book a package or room-only.

No other Universal hotel includes it, including Helios Grand Hotel at Epic Universe, and the included pass is not valid at Epic Universe or Volcano Bay. On peak dates the pass can cost more per person per day than the room-rate difference, which is why we run your group through the Universal Express Pass room calculator before choosing a hotel. See how the perk works in our Unlimited Express Pass hotels guide.

They can. Packages can be built with ticket types that include Epic Universe, but on most multi-day tickets Epic Universe is one day of the ticket rather than every day, so your Epic day has to be chosen when the package is built, not assumed.

Epic Universe Express Pass is never included in a package or a hotel stay; it is a separate, date-based purchase at every hotel. We confirm your Epic Universe day is on the ticket, add Express for that day if you want it, and pick the day using our Universal Orlando crowd calendar.

U-Preferred is Universal Parks & Resorts Vacations’ program for travel agencies, with five tiers earned on Universal sales: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Favorite Grampy Travels holds Platinum, the second-highest tier.

For your package it means faster, more accurate answers from Universal and stronger access when a booking needs fixing. The tier is about the support Universal gives the agency, not a separate price list for guests, so ask about it alongside the other questions on this page, not instead of them.

Yes, for full planning. Favorite Grampy Travels’ planning fee averages around $250 per trip for full custom planning, quoted up front in a complimentary 15-minute consultation; ticket-only and single-service requests run $0 to $200, and many carry no fee at all.

The fee is separate from the cost of your trip. Universal pays a small commission on select products, but our hotel and ticket recommendations are never based on commission. The full breakdown lives on our planning fees page.
