Kevin McSorley is a Concierge Travel Advisor with Favorite Grampy Travels, specializing in ocean cruises, river cruises, luxury travel, and group celebrations, based in Aldie, Virginia.
I came to travel planning through an unusual path. I hold a Juris Doctorate from George Mason University, a Tier 1 law school, where I studied aviation law and maritime law. That coursework shapes how I approach every trip I plan.
When I research a cruise for a client, I think about contracts, contingencies, and the small clauses most travelers never read. I think about what happens if a port is missed, how insurance interacts with the cruise line’s own protections, and which cabin categories give you actual recourse if something goes wrong.
That mindset is why clients keep telling me the same thing: working with me feels prepared. Every decision in your trip has been thought through before you ever board the ship.
This year marks my 33rd cruise. I’ve sailed Royal Caribbean, Disney, Virgin Voyages, Norwegian, MSC, Celebrity, Margaritaville at Sea, Carnival, Princess, and Dolphin Port Canaveral Cruise Lines. Royal Caribbean is my home line; I’m a Diamond Member, and most of my client bookings are with Royal.
The class I know inside and out is the Oasis Class. I’ve sailed Oasis Class ships five times, including Utopia of the Seas, which is my favorite ship in the entire industry. The Oasis Class is the most perfectly balanced ship design in the world, and Utopia is the polished, refined version.
The new Star of the Seas, Royal’s second Icon Class ship that launched in August 2025, is in active Caribbean service now. Icon Class is reshaping what cruise ships can be, and my Oasis Class expertise gives me a direct comparison point most agents don’t have.
I’m a CLIA Certified Cruise Counselor (CCC) currently working toward the Accredited Cruise Counselor designation. I was also the first advisor at Favorite Grampy Travels to sell a Hurtigruten cruise and a Windstar cruise.
I’m married to Michelle McSorley, who is also a Concierge Travel Advisor at Favorite Grampy Travels. We’ve been celebrating our 20th anniversary this year, which means we’ve been planning trips together for two decades.
Michelle is a natural planner with the instinct, the warmth, and the eye for detail that makes a trip feel personal. I’m the researcher and the strategist. I dig into ship specs, port logistics, cabin categories, and contract terms.
For clients who work with one of us, you get the benefit of both. We talk through every booking together. The decisions you make on your trip have been pressure-tested by two minds, not one.
Michelle and I once decided to save money on a Las Vegas trip by using the Monorail instead of taxis. The taxi would have cost more, so we went with the cheaper option. We spent that day exhausted, sweating in the high-desert heat, walking long distances between Monorail stops.
That trip taught me a planning principle I still use with every client. Cheap is not always best, and convenience often saves more than money. Sometimes the right answer is to spend the extra $30 on a private transfer so your vacation actually starts when you arrive.
I balance convenience against price for every client. The goal is a trip that feels worth what you paid, not a trip that saved money on paper while costing time, energy, and goodwill.
I’m a proud father of a 14-year-old and a 12-year-old, and Michelle is the best partner anyone could ask for. We live in Aldie, Virginia, in eastern Loudoun County, and we travel as a family every chance we get.
Our family favorite is Ocean City, Maryland. It’s the one place we can see both sunrise and sunset over water without leaving the property, and the slower pace lets us reconnect away from the noise of everyday life.
I’ve personally traveled to over 30 U.S. states and more than 20 international destinations, including England, France, Germany, Iceland, Canada, the British Virgin Islands, and most of the Caribbean islands. That breadth means I can plan well beyond cruises when families want a different kind of trip.
I’ve sailed 33 cruises across 10 different cruise lines, hold a Tier 1 Juris Doctorate with maritime law coursework, and am a CLIA Certified Cruise Counselor and Royal Caribbean Diamond Member. I was the first advisor at Favorite Grampy Travels to sell a Hurtigruten and a Windstar cruise.
Because if your flight is delayed or canceled, the ship leaves without you. I always advise clients to arrive the day before, stay in a hotel near the port, and board rested. The extra night costs less than missing a cruise, and the peace of mind is worth far more.
I start with how your family vacations: nonstop entertainment, quiet luxury, or expedition-style adventure. From there I match you to a cruise line, then a class of ship, then specific itineraries. Every cruise line has a personality, and the right fit matters more than the price.
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom in the fall. I can’t get enough of the Halloween decorations and the spooky fun hiding around every corner.
Favorite Restaurant: The Boathouse at Disney Springs. The lobster roll is magical, and wear your Captain’s hat during brunch. You’ll find out why.
Favorite Attractions: A tie between Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Two original immersive rides that pull you into the environment without needing thrill-ride spectacle to do it.
Favorite Snack: Mac & Cheese cones at Epic Universe. Garlicky, cheesy, and portable. The perfect snack to share.
Favorite Character: Gaston. Every interaction with him in the parks leaves my ribs hurting from laughing. He’s so into himself that you can’t help but love it.
Favorite Adult Trip: Dominica. Relatively untouched, unspoiled, and the people are some of the most hospitable I’ve ever met.
Favorite Family Trip: Ocean City, Maryland. Sunrise and sunset over water without leaving the property.
Favorite Adventure: A Zodiac boat tour of Kauai. Full speed through caves and waterfalls, one of the most thrilling experiences I’ve ever had.
Favorite Winter Trip: Iceland. I’m a winter guy, and Iceland delivers snow, festive atmosphere, and landscapes I could visit again and again.
Favorite Cruise Line: Royal Caribbean takes first place, with MSC as a strong second. MSC is well-funded, eager to make its mark in the U.S. market, and has some of the most stunning ship designs out there.
Favorite Cruise Ship: Utopia of the Seas, with MSC World America as a close second. Both are breathtaking from bow to stern.
“You have been the best guide! I cannot be more grateful to you for making this significant vacation trip as easy as possible!”
