Disney’s Original Ships: Magic and Wonder

Disney Magic

Best for First-Time Cruisers and Disney Princess Lovers

The Disney Magic holds a special place in every Disney fan’s heart as the ship that started it all. With its modern renovations, it easily matches the magic of Disney’s newest innovative ships. The Disney Magic is the only ship with the AquaDunk, a 3-story vertical drop slide that utilizes a trap door to launch riders into a wet and wild ride that extends 20 feet over the ocean. It also has the one-and-only Rapunzel’s Royal Table, a unique Tangled-themed dining hall with characters and music from the iconic movie, as well as the exclusive Lumiere’s, offering contemporary French fare in Beauty and the Beast-inspired ambiance.

Picture of the Avengers During Marvel Day at Sea, Disney Cruise Line

If you have a little princess, this ship would definitely be one of my top picks. The Disney Magic not only includes rotational dining at the only immersive Tangled-themed restaurant, but also Tangled: The Musical. The Magic is known for its variety of Disney Princess-inspired Broadway-style shows, which are performed complimentary for its guests. Your little ones will feel so enchanted, especially after a visit to their own onboard fairy godmother at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. A fairytale makeover is not exclusive to little princesses; they also transform your heroes into knights and sea captains upon request!

Select sailings even have the Marvel Day at Sea, where your favorite characters join the fun for an action-packed all-day adventure. Enjoy superhero meet-and-greets, themed menus, and Marvel-themed activities for the whole family. However, saving the world isn’t limited to one day; your super kids can attend the Marvel Superhero Academy inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club, among a variety of other imaginative worlds from their favorite stories. Tweens and teens also have their own dedicated hangout spots, known as Edge and Vibe, which are perfect for making friends in their home away from home.

While the kids have fun living out their fairytale dreams, the adults are free to explore the magic of Disney luxury. From themed nightclubs like the Soul Cat Lounge to a Senses Spa and Salon treatment and relaxation at the adults-only Quiet Cove Pool, the Disney Magic has much to offer its grown-up audience. After your family dinner, don’t miss out on the After Hours Adult District for casual conversation or late-night partying.

The Disney Magic is known for its select 3 to 5-night Bahamas and Caribbean sailings that include specialty days such as Marvel Day at Sea and holiday voyages like Halloween on the High Seas or Very Merrytime Cruises. The ship also has longer 7 to 10-night sailings as well as seasonal adventures to more unique destinations like Europe. Starting in 2026, the Disney Magic will join the Wonder and offer special sailings to Alaska.

Disney Wonder

Best for Intimate Family Adventures

The Disney Wonder is the sister ship of the Disney Magic, offering the most intimate Disney cruising experience. Her smaller size (2,713 guests) creates the feeling of a genuine community, where families can connect, and kids can create lasting friendships.

Photo of Mickey and Minnie on the Deck in Alaska, Disney Cruise

The ship has an attractive Art Nouveau theme, with much of the decor taking inspiration from The Little Mermaid. Instead of Rapunzel’s Royal Table and Lumiere’s, the Disney Wonder has Tiana’s Place and Triton’s, based on Disney’s The Princess and the Frog and The Little Mermaid. Both of these rotational restaurants are wonderfully themed with unique menus, entertainment, and ambiance.

Our favorite Broadway-style show offered on the Disney Wonder is, of course, Frozen, A Musical Spectacular. The talent is always top-notch, and my grandkids never get tired of hearing “Let It Go” (unlike Grammy). Our grandkids also loved hanging out on the top deck at the pool to join in on the daily deck parties, where they danced with some classic Disney Characters to their favorite music.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club aboard the Wonder is quite similar to its sister ship’s. Andy’s Room brings playtime to life with Toy Story activities and a Slinky Dog playground. There’s also a Marvel area for young heroes and, unlike the Disney Magic, an adorable Frozen-themed room where sing-alongs are held!

For the adults, the Disney Wonder has the swinging French Quarter Lounge. This waterhole has the best libations and the freshest beignets! The colorful decor and live jazz performances make for a lovely time. The Disney Wonder also provides an After Hours Adult District with a British Pub for some celebratory sips, a classy 50s-style lounge, and Azure, an adults-only nightclub.

The Disney Wonder’s smaller ship size notably allows it to visit more unique ports and destinations. Many of the Disney Wonder’s ports are located on the Pacific coast, with voyages from California or Canada that travel along the coast to Mexico and islands in the South Pacific. The destination changes depending on the seasons, such as 7-night Alaskan cruises in the summer. The Wonder also offers a unique 14-night trip through the Panama Canal, taking you from California to Miami.

Disney’s Sophisticated Dream-Class Ships

Disney Dream

Best for the Sweet Spot between Elegance and Fun

The Disney Dream was built in 2010 and refurbished in 2024, and it’s better than ever. It’s a part of the Dream-class along with the Disney Fantasy. The Dream-class ships are regarded as the perfect “Goldilocks” ships. They’re not too small, not too large, but just right for most families seeking that classic Disney cruise experience with some unique features. This ship introduced the first onboard water coaster, the AquaDuck. Located on the top deck of both the Dream and the Fantasy, this see-through water coaster is a blast!

Picture of the Disney Dream from Port, Disney Cruise Line - Favorite Grampy Travels 2026

When tired of the pool, your kids can hang out at the Oceaneer Club. On the Disney Dream, they will be able to explore the Millennium Falcon and test their WEB technology with Spider-Man! The Disney Dream is also for princess-lovers. The whole family can enjoy a beautiful live retelling of Beauty and the Beast in the Walt Disney Theatre or Royal Court Royal Tea with Disney princesses.

The Disney Dream has rotational dining at Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, and the Royal Palace. Adults can also enjoy specialty dining at two exquisite, signature restaurants, Palo and Remy. After hours, they can also visit the adults-only area, The District, which is home to unique bars and lounges. Enjoy live music at District Lounge, bubbly drinks at Pink: Wine and Champagne Bar, or cocktails at Skyline. The party continues at Evolution, with a variety of fun activities like dancing, karaoke, and comedy all throughout the night.

The Disney Dream primarily sails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with itineraries in the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Occasionally, the Disney Dream will have special voyages in Europe to various countries. Its itineraries typically range from 3 to 5 nights. On select Disney Dream itineraries, specialty days are included, such as Halloween on the High Seas or Very Merrytime Cruises. Certain sailings may even have visits from Bluey and Bingo!

Disney Fantasy

Best for Longer Family Voyages and Adult Travelers

The Disney Fantasy represents Disney cruising at its most polished and family-friendly. There are so many unique activities and features for the whole family to enjoy on this ship. It was one of our favorites and my grandkids first Disney Cruise, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. The Disney Fantasy was refurbished in 2025, elevating the classic ship to the Wish-class standard.

Picture of Monsters Inc Standup Comedy at the Tube on the Disney Fantasy, Disney Cruise Line

One of the most significant upgrades happened to the Oceaneer Club. Now, your kids can visit the Marvel Superhero Academy and take lessons from their favorite superheroes or save the galaxy in Star Wars: Command Post! The Fantasy is also the only Dream-class ship with the AquaLab. Both the Dream and Fantasy have Nemo’s Reef, a dedicated splash zone for kids 4 and under to play, but the Disney Fantasy, Magic, and Wonder also have the Aqua Lab water playground for all kids to enjoy!

The Fantasy showcases Broadway-style performances of Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular and Disney’s Frozen, A Musical Spectacular for all to enjoy. The rotational dining on the Fantasy is similar to the Disney Dream, with dinner at Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Court. Adults looking for more fine dining can enjoy one of two restaurants, Palo or Remy, which offer delicious Italian and French cuisine respectively.

After putting the kids to bed at night, the adults can check out Europa, the adults-only district aboard the Fantasy. This area is a favorite among adult cruisers because of its sophisticated and fun environment. Have some bubbly sips at Ooh La La Champagne Bar, grab a pint at O’Gills Pub, or imagine you are enjoying a cocktail in Italy at the Piazza. There is also a groovy nightclub inspired by 70s-London fashion called The Tube.

On select 5-night Bahamian cruises, voyages of the Disney Fantasy include a Pixar Day at Sea where childhood favorite Pixar characters come out to play at this all-day-long party! During the holidays, certain cruising itineraries will have special themed days such as Halloween on the High Seas or Very Merrytime Cruises.

The Disney Fantasy’s port of departure is usually Port Canaveral in Florida. This ship has various itineraries in the Bahamas and Caribbean, often including Disney’s private islands. The Disney Fantasy is known for its longer voyages, though it offers a wide range of sailings from 3 to the occasional 14-night stay.

Disney’s Adventure-Packed Triton-Class Ships

Disney Wish

Best for Princess-Loving Families and Disney Superfans

The Disney Wish revolutionized Disney cruising with the most immersive theming ever created. She’s perfect for families with princess-obsessed kids and Disney superfans who want cutting-edge experiences. It’s not exclusive to your little princesses. The Triton-class ships are also known for having the legendary Worlds of Marvel restaurant as part of their rotational dining, where your kids can join in on saving dinner (and the day)!

Picture of Disney Cruise Line, Worlds of Marvel Interactive Dinning Experience

Instead of the AquaDuck, the Disney Triton-class ships have the AquaMouse, a two-person water attraction that follows Mickey Mouse through an animated adventure! The water ride is uniquely decorated with screens that tell a story. The Triton-class ships also have an Incredibles-themed indoor sports obstacle course arena called The Hero Zone! Disney’s Oceaneer Club onboard the Triton-class ships includes favorites from the other ship classes. There are rooms for all interests, from Disney Princesses to Marvel to Star Wars, and even a Walt Disney Imagineering Lab for ride design!

After the kids play, have the family reunite at the Walt Disney Theatre to watch an unforgettable performance of Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular or Disney The Little Mermaid! Then, head to dinner at Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure for an exclusive theatrical dining experience with Elsa and Anna! Much of the Disney Wish is themed after iconic Disney fairytales. The staterooms onboard are some of the most beautiful, modeled after Cinderella and Frozen (Decks 2, 6, and 7),The Princess and the Frog and Sleeping Beauty (Decks 8 and 9), Moana and The Little Mermaid (Decks 10 and 11), or Tangled (Concierge Deck 12).

At night, the lounges and bars turn into adult-exclusive entertainment, but the Disney theming doesn’t end. Star Wars fans love the Hyperspace Lounge, which resembles the Millennium Falcon. Both the environment and concoctions are galactic-themed for your enjoyment. Also check out Keg & Compass for unique craft beers that are exclusive to the ship. The Disney Wish also hosts Enchanté, an adults-only French-inspired restaurant by three-Michelin-starred Chef Arnold Lallement, and Palo Steakhouse, inspired by Cogsworth from Beauty and the Beast.

Select sailings of the Disney Wish add extra enchantment during the holidays. Be on the lookout for a spooky Halloween on the High Seas voyage or the jolly Very Merrytime Cruises when booking. The Disney Wish primarily sails from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas, often including a stop at one or both of Disney’s private islands. However, in 2027, the Disney Wish will make its European debut!

Disney Treasure

Best for Adventure-Loving Families and Fans of the Disney Parks

The Disney Treasure focuses on adventure, exploration, and classic Disney storytelling. Since its maiden voyage in 2024, the Disney Treasure has become a favorite among many families, particularly those who are fans of the Disney parks! Much of the hidden theming of this gem of a ship takes inspiration from both Disney films and popular park attractions.

Picture of the Disney Treasure Atrium Aladdin and Jasmine Statue, Disney Cruise Line

The Disney Treasure offers Broadway-style performances of Disney The Tale of Moana and Beauty and the Beast for your princess-loving grandkids. Check out the two-story Sarabi lounge during the day with your family for some Lion King-inspired musical and gameshow fun. At night, this lounge becomes an adult-exclusive entertainment venue with live musical performances.

Don’t miss the unforgettable Haunted Mansion and Skipper Society for some nostalgic theme park fun! These two magical lounges are modeled after the iconic Disney attractions, the spooky Haunted Mansion and exotic Jungle Cruise. Enjoy themed drinks and atmosphere in these adults-exclusive after-hours venues.

During the day, kids are welcome to party on the pool deck or hide away in the Triton-class Oceaneer Club or The Hero Zone. At night, the family comes together to dine at the one and only Plaza de Coco. This theatrical dining experience invites you to join the Rivera Family for a night of musical festivities with Miguel!

The magic doesn’t end when you tuck in for the night at your themed stateroom. Inspired by many of the best Disney adventures, each deck of the ship has staterooms dedicated to your favorite stories. Starting at the lower decks, decks 2, 6, and 7 include details from Pocahontas and Aladdin. Moving up, decks 8 and 9 draw inspiration from the colorful Up and Encanto, and decks 10 and 11 are for Pixar fans of Finding Nemo or Luca who love the ocean. Decks 11 and 12, the concierge level, are inspired by the Lion King’s royal animation.

The Disney Treasure specializes in 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings from Port Canaveral, offering the perfect week-long family vacations full of fun in the sun and magic. These itineraries usually include a stop at Disney’s original private island, Castaway Cay.

The Disney Destiny

Best for Hero and Villain Enthusiasts

The Disney Destiny brings the dramatic clash between heroes and villains to life in new ways that appeal to families seeking excitement. She’s ideal for action-loving families ready to save the day on their vacation. From superhero meet and greets to villainous dining, get ready to embark on your hero’s journey.

Photo of a Stateroom of the Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line

This ship features elite Broadway-style performances of Disney Hercules and Frozen, A Musical Spectacular. The live special effects, creative projections, and music are uniquely enchanting to the Disney Cruise Line. Continue your hero’s journey by dining at the Disney Destiny exclusive rotational restaurant Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King. The dinner experience includes musical storytelling and a themed menu that families love!

The Disney Destiny has the most Disney Adult fun yet! In addition to the Haunted Mansion Parlor, the Disney Destiny offers a wickedly good time at De Vil’s, a stylish adults-only lounge by night, the Cask and Cannon, a Pirates of the Caribbean themed pub reminiscent of the nostalgic theme park ride, and a nightly adventure at The Sanctum, the perfect mystic hideaway for Marvel-loving adults.

Kids can live out all their favorite stories at Disney’s Oceaneer Club. The kids’ only entrance includes a Wreck-it Ralph-themed atrium slide to start their next adventure! For self-care and relaxation, this ship features the Untangled Salon and Hooks Barbery so adults can always look their best. The Untangled Salon offers pedicures, manicures, and hairstyling services for your spa day at sea. Princes and Pirates can visit Hooks Barbery for a shave and a drink from the pirate captain’s specialty whiskey collection.

One of my favorite things about this ship is that Disney’s most legendary heroes are represented in each of the staterooms. My granddaughter’s favorite princess, Mulan, is on Decks 2, 6, and 7, along with Hercules. Above that, decks 8 and 9 are themed after Raya and the Last Dragon and Princess Merida from the Pixar movie Brave. Decks 10 and 11 have beautiful artwork from Big Hero Six and The Incredibles. Finally, the Concierge Decks 12 and 13 are inspired by the iconic Disney classic film Fantasia. The most impressive room is the Tower Suite, based on our favorite hero, Tony Stark. Hidden in the elegant-yet-modern penthouse are many elements pf Marvel and secrets to be found!

The Disney Destiny offers 4-5 night Bahamian and Western Caribbean voyages from Fort Lauderdale. Select sailings include stops at Disney’s private islands, Castaway Cay or Lighthouse Point, or Nassau in the Bahamas.

Disney’s Revolutionary New Adventure Ship

The Disney Adventure

Best for Large Groups and International Travelers

The Disney Adventure breaks all Disney cruise records as their largest ship ever at 208,000 gross tons, accommodating up to 6,700 guests. She’s designed for families seeking grand-scale Disney magic with international flair.

Picture of Spider-man with Kids in Disney Adventure Oceaneer Club, Disney Cruise Line

The Disney Adventure’s home port is in Singapore, making it the only Asian-based Disney Cruise. Rather than sailing to a tropical island destination for an afternoon, the ship IS the destination. This massive revolutionary vessel is the most immersive boat ever, akin to a Disney park at sea! It even hosts Disney’s first roller coaster at sea.

This ship features 7 uniquely Disney-themed areas aboard for families to enjoy. Ever been jealous that you’ve outgrown the Oceaneer Club your kids get to enjoy? Try the Disney Adventure, where an even more immersive ship-wide storytelling experience is available for everyone to explore.

Each of these 7 locations is themed after one (or several!) Disney stories. These areas typically include entertainment, attractions, and character-inspired dining options. The Disney Adventure has the most variety of food options of any Disney Cruise ship.

The Disney Adventure offers 3-4 night sea-only cruises from Singapore, focusing on ship experiences rather than port exploration. It’s perfect for families located far from the typical Disney ports or those who prefer days at sea on the most lively Disney ship ever over excursions.

Price Points and Budget Considerations

Let’s talk real numbers! Disney Magic and Disney Wonder offer the most budget-friendly Disney experiences, with inside cabins starting around $1,000-$1,500 per person for 3-4 night cruises. These ships provide authentic Disney magic without premium pricing.

Picture of Family on the Aqua Mouse, Disney Cruise Line

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy fall in the mid-range ($1,400-$2,500 per person), offering sophisticated amenities and longer voyages that justify the moderate price increase. The AquaDuck alone is worth the extra cost for water-loving families!

Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny represent premium Disney cruising ($1,800-$3,500+ per person), cutting-edge technology, exclusive dining experiences, and the newest innovations. The Disney Adventure starts around $500 per person for inside cabins, but typically ranges from $600-1000. Her Singapore-base may make getting to port trickier for international cruisers once you factor in flights.

Budget Tips: Choose inside cabins on shorter itineraries during off-peak seasons (January-March and September-November). The split bathroom design makes the deluxe inside cabins surprisingly livable for families!

Luxury Upgrades: Concierge Staterooms can double or triple costs but provide priority reservations, exclusive lounges, and personalized service that transforms your entire cruise experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Disney ship is best for families with young children?

From my experience, young kids tend to spend almost the whole day at the kids’ club! It was almost impossible to steal my grandkids away for dinner. The best Disney ship for young children would be whichever Oceaneer Club has the theming your kids are most in love with. Many have similar character designs; however, some ships have unique areas like the Disney Wish’s Fairytale Hall, which has special rooms dedicated to the iconic stories of Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, and Frozen.

Which Disney ship offers the best value for money?

The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder have the best value with classic Disney experiences at lower price points. For premium value, the Disney Wish, Treasure, and Destiny have some of the most unique and innovative amenities that take cruising to the next level.

Which Disney ship is most romantic for couples?

All of the Disney Cruise Ships have special areas, amenities, and entertainment venues crafted specifically for adult getaways. In my opinion, the Disney Fantasy ranks highest for couples because of the sophisticated Europa adult district, Remy fine dining, and Satellite Falls adult-exclusive pool and sun deck. The Disney Fantasy also has an elegant Art Nouveau design, which is more sophisticated for families who want less of a character theme.

The Imagineers were aware of this wish for some child-free fun, so they created the layout of the Disney Wish, Treasure, and Destiny to maximize time away from kids. Their deck plans were specifically designed to separate cruisers by their interests, with spaces dedicated to families far from the areas frequented by adults. On these ships, you can go all day without seeing kids!

Which Disney ship has the most activities for kids?

The Disney Wish, Treasure, and Destiny feature the most cutting-edge kids’ activities, including the AquaMouse (the first Disney attraction at sea) and the innovative Oceaneer Club. Immersive character experiences are found all throughout the ship, but most prominently in the Oceaneer Clubs, which have areas such as Marvel Super Hero Academy, Star Wars: Cargo Bay, and Disney Fairytale Hall. However, for whole family experiences, I’d have to say that the Disney Adventure has the most to do hands down! It even has an onboard mini-theme park!

Which Disney ships visit the most interesting destinations?

While most Disney ships have itineraries in the beautiful Caribbean, the Disney Wonder and Magic offer unique Alaska and Pacific Coast itineraries. The Disney Adventure may not have interesting ports to explore; however, the ship itself is a destination you can’t find anywhere else.

What’s the difference between ship classes and sizes?

The Magic-class (Magic, Wonder): 2,713 guests, intimate and budget-friendly. The Dream-class (Dream, Fantasy): 4,000 guests, a larger but sophisticated balance. The Wish-class (Wish, Treasure, Destiny): 4,000 guests, cutting-edge theming. The Global-class (Adventure): 6,700 guests, record-breaking scale.
